Incentives for Support players
League has been wanting ways to encourage people to play support for a while now, and being as I'm a support main, I've got an idea. Instead of trying to vastly change the in-game feel of supporting, why not change the incentives to queue up as support?
- Supports can have trouble climbing if they're not playing damage supports, and (Lets face it) having a squishy support isn't always a good idea. A. So why don't we increase IP rewards for normals, make reduced LP penalties for games lost as support, and larger LP amounts for winning?
- I know one of the best feelings as support, is preventing a gank that could've happened, or when you pull off that clutch play that saves a teammate. A. Maybe for support players, make a counter of how many times a support has saved team member's lives. (Could set that up like, How many times has shielding or healing prevented players from being dealt the killing blow. I know that doesn't account for all supports specialties, but it's a start.) And for warding, maybe set up a counter that says something like, "Enemies Spotted" or something like that. That way a Support can have bragging rights too.
- But if we want bragging rights, we need to be able to show it off as well. A. So maybe if a Support player meets a certain criteria, they could have a specific Support main border. (Granted, Yeah, people might play long enough to get the border and then quit playing support, but I feel like this border would require a certain percentage of games played as support to aquire, or so many recent games as support to maintain the border. It could even be based off of masteries of support champion pools or something similar to that.) Maybe I'm talking in a Vacuum, and nobody here really cares about Supports, but I'd love to see Supports have the same kind of gratification that the other roles get from pulling off a flashy play and getting a triple kill, or doing ... (incoming meme) TONS OF DAMAGE. Rito seems to be really trying to push support play, and they're taking steps in the right direction, but I'm not sure they're the right steps, if you know what I mean. Anyway, those are my thoughts from your resident Thresh/Zyra/Sona Main.
