Shields are Overpowered.
Shields have very minimal counter play and I would just like to discuss how we can effect this. My strongest recommendation is to have Grievous Wounds affect shields, as well as healing. The Lulu effect has hit competitive play hard and I think nerfing champions similar to Lulu would only hurt their role in Solo Queue. Making Grievous Wounds affect Shields would require much more thought be put into shields rather than them being reactionary skills. Choosing to shield someone before they enter a bush to ward, check baron, initiate could be as much a plan as holding your abilities to save a priority target. This would also allow for assassins who do well to hit your back line to be more successful while also allowing for shielding characters to punish assassins who do not do their jobs as well. If an assassin makes a good play and knocks a carry to below 35% HP, they deserve to keep that damage and have the ability to finish the target through team mates or by themselves. Allowing for shields to always be effective negate this style of play. While this would punish people out of position or to near an unwarded flank, we also need to make a notion towards how well it will affect a warded flank. If you see an Ekko coming a preemptive shield (not reactionary) would do more to save the target than one cast after Grievous Wounds effects affect the shield.
I hope this makes sense to others as I've tried to include some good examples as how I feel it would affect game play decisions. With the addition of the Overheal mechanic this coming pre-season I think this will become a much larger issue.
What are some other options we can do to to help mitigate how strong shields have become over heals and other support mechanics?
thats a problem. but i dont see it built that often and im pretty sure there is a solid agreement that it is strong but its also needed to make supports have noticeable impact
are the only good offensive support item right now and it still has great defensive utility.
