Hard for old players to come back?

Hi there everyone. I think that this is my first post in these forums, but I think that this would be the best place to say this.

I've been playing League of Legends since season 3, but I took a break around late 2016-2017 (sporadically throughout, 3 months at a time or so). I recently came back and have really been a little overwhelmed as to how much the champions have changed.

I respect Riot making changes, alterations and patches to the game to fix and balance as they see fit, but the reworking of pre-existing champions has made it really difficult for me to get back into it.

I don't want to be seen as whinging and I'm not angry at all, but reworking or overhauling a lot of the champions that seemed to work before may be intimidating for people trying to give League a shot again.

Let me know what you guys think.

Just for an example: I used to main Irelia top from pre-season 4 onward, but when I came back and locked her in for a match, unbeknownst to me I ended up with a completely different champion.
