I don't know why people are using items to reference counterplay to Zed's assassination combo.

I honestly think that people that use this argument are delusional and/or are Zed mains. Zed has no weakness in laning to compensate for how well he does in fights and how reliable his combo is if he is not behind, especially in soloqueue, and the fact that people use "but such and such item" to "give" him counterplay just shows how truely dumb this champion is. I don't even agree with the current nerf (hardly a nerf) that was given to Zed this patch, he needed either nerfs to his waveclear or his braindead teamfighting/assassination combo, because frankly he's overbearing in every game I play.

TL;DR Saying "get a qss" at the 15 minute mark to couter a clearly dumb mechanic is not a good defence of a clearly dumb mechanic.

I would never advise getting a qss at 15 minutes regardless of champion. Fact is that Zed has plenty of counter options in the form of champions coupled with two items that remove his ultimate. If you don't like Zed try taking something that counters him like Kayle, Malzahar, Annie. I don't play Zed, I am not interested in playing Zed at all. He is easily handled in lane if you know the match up. Dodging his Q is easy, hanging off to the side of your minion wave forces him to choose between waveclear or harassing you and missing CS. Zed only truly gets annoying when teamfights come along because you can get locked down by the supports/tanks cc allowing zed to get off a full combo to 100-0 you.

it never made sense that every other champ it was optional, but on him its mandatory.

Zhonyas hourglass doesn't protect you from constant manaless ranged poke in lane..... Zhonyas won't protect you from his level 6 ult before you can even afford a needless.

From this I guess you are a adc main since zhonyas do shut down zeds ult. The paradox here is that the qss wont stop that fed zed wacking your head with his triple shuriken or execute passive as it wont cut AD damage at all.
