Taric, does he need a gameplay tune-up?

I really enjoy Taric, but I feel like he could use a bit of a tune-up. And I mean besides the model and texture one he needed well over a year ago... Taric has gone through quite a few changes, and right now feels a lot like a jack of all trades champion. He can be good at a lot of things, but needs so many different stats that he ends up being only okay at a few in most cases. I think he needs a bit of a tweak to allow him to focus on one thing, or at least let him have choices in each game that matter and changes what he can do in each match rather than being a highly situational champ most of the time.

I'm thinking along the idea of a "Viktor type change" where he gets his own item (crystal gear maybe?) to augment (with gems obviously!) that gives him different branches to upgrade along and keep his jack of all trades feel, but in a way that he can choose what he focuses on if he wants to. These are just my ideas, and numbers would have to be changed obviously. Mine are merely a suggestion of what they would be if his stats overall were balanced out for it.

The first upgrade would be to choose weather he wants to enhance his shield or his hammer

  • Shield would increase the aura of Shatter (W) by 13% of his armor (making it 25% total) and add a small flat MR bonus (10 maybe?)
  • Hammer would change Radiance (R) to give FULL damage to nearby allies for the duration. (would probably need to have lower numbers though since 70 would be a lot at max.) And would increase the power of Gemcraft (P) by a small amount.

After this choice of being defensive or offensive based he would then augment his chosen item with a gem upgrade to add a final effect. Ruby - Increases health by 100 for each nearby ally, and gives an aura of health regen. Sapphire - Reduces Taric's mana costs by 10 (maybe 20?) and gives an aura of mana regen. Emerald - 20% cooldown reduction and a buff that makes every second skill he uses more powerful. Amethyst - An aura that steals nearby enemy armor and magic resist and adds it to Taric (10? 15 maybe?). Topaz - 40 armor and and enhances Shatter's(W) aura by another 5%

Just a few ideas for making the Gem Knight feel like gems actually play a role in his playstyle, and make his jack of all trade stats have more focused goals. What are other peoples opinions on Taric?
