Should Ivern have been released?
This may sound like a odd question: Should a champion have been released; not many people actually say that when new league content comes out, but I can't help wondering why is it that they released a champion with such a clearly high learning curve coupled with bad stats and odd kit that seems as though it hasn't been going well for people regardless of lane.
According to OP.GG Ivern has the lowest win rate of all champions sitting at a demeaning 41% win rate in Platinum and then shoots down to a 37% win rate in Diamond along with a pick rate of 3.66%.
Funnily enough it seems as though jungle ivern and support ivern have very close win rates with a disparity of about 1.5% in favor of jungle, but of course this could just be because many people try him out as jungle first and then do very poorly.
What do I think is wrong with Ivern you ask? First and foremost I believe Riot did a very poor job at actually explaining how Ivern should build to maximize his potential. For the first two weeks after his release (if you even saw an Ivern) they were going some random on-hit attack speed build, some tried full ap health through Rod, others partook in cinderhulk super tank ivern which didn't really benefit him at all since he isn't a tank type, and then the rest build a mix of support items. Is it that hard to just be completely transparent Riot?
On 10/7 they even gave Ivern hotfixes to help him out because even Riot knew he sucked, but the hotfixes were pretty lackluster if you ask me. They didn't really fix his core issues, they pretty much put a bandaid solution on an arterial wound.
Ivern Balance Update The Green Father hasn't been out for long, but it's clear that would-be Ivern mains are having a tough time finding success on the Rift. We're targeting two specific issues for now: letting him take better advantage of Brushmaker's basic attack buff, and helping him scale better into the late-game. (The magic resist line is more of a 'buff fix' to make Ivern's stats consistent with most other champs.) General HEALTH GROWTH STAT 74 ⇒ 90 MAGIC RESIST 30 ⇒ 32.1 ATTACK SPEED 0.625 ⇒ 0.644 ATTACK SPEED GROWTH STAT 2.8% ⇒ 3.4%"
If you ask me I believe Ivern should have had more internal testing because it seemed as though Riot had no idea what they wanted to do with him as his release felt extremely forced. It was like Hey look at his champion he's a support jungler that has six new mechanics but no actual strategy on playing him and let's also give him awful stats and make him not scale at all so he just does worse the longer the game goes on
Like please Riot, you needed to internally test him much much much more before releasing him. I feel as though he could and can be a really cool champion, just please Riot, do something with him. You can't release a god-awful champion and then forget about him because you're too busy with other new shit that you want to release, fix the problems at hand and then maybe your community will think more highly of you. :)
