I feel like vision could use an overall rework
Trinkets were a good direction to go, but I feel like the potential for the vision game hasn't been reached yet.
In my opinion, we need less
and more
items. While the burden will always be mostly on the support due to several reasons (class that can afford to rush vision items, class expected to roam, etc), there's a lack of itemization for other classes.
The biggest problem with this, however, even if Riot decided to make vision items for every class, is over-saturation of vision. This could potentially be solved by limiting the potential of trinkets (remove charging mechanic on
and increasing cooldown on sweepers), balancing it with the idea that utility champions (mages and tanks in particular) will buy vision-supplementary items while assassins/fighters will buy items like
.
So far, while BS, items like
are a step in this direction. However, this needs to be balanced by adding vision-interacting items (without severely limiting stats) for other classes, but reducing power in trinkets as previously stated.
My biggest reason for making this post is that sightstone is pretty damn boring. You rush a 800 gold item that doesn't necessarily need to be completed to do what you want it to, and it's kind of just... there. You buy it because you have to, because you're the support. There's no other strategical thought needed beyond what stats you want if you're going to upgrade it instead of getting the other tier 3 support items. Granted, it's better than before, but adding vision items for other classes (that supports, depending on their subclass, could get instead of sightstone) would make the vision game more interactive, strategic, and more evenly distributed between the team.
One vision type I'd like to see is already existent on the kits of several marksman, particularly Ashe and Kalista. Roaming vision sentries that either last a short time, or can be destroyed while patrolling an area. It would be interesting to add these effects to already existing items that aren't necessarily a must-buy on marksman, while also re-balancing those items to handle those vision effects. It would also compliment the support's usual wards that stay put in one spot, but last quite awhile.
I can go on about what kind of vision and wards I could see, but other people have made much better threads about it. My opinion is that it relies on more than just ward types alone, but complete itemization available to every class to reduce the warding burden on supports that is frankly boring yet impactful, something that may (some of us more strategic folk find it interesting, but I'm considering more casual players here and non-support mains) impact the relative unpopularity of the support role.
tl;dr: new duskblade and tracker's knife are, imo, a step in the right direction and could lead to less dependence on sightstone if expanded to other classes while appropriately nerfing trinket items to prevent vision over-saturation.
