Ahri versus Xerath... who wins this matchup

I'm asking this because in a recent match, I pretty much lost lane to a Flash/Ghost Xerath who for THE WHOLE GAME claimed that he "shit on me" and that Ahri was a counter to Xerath. I'm not entirely certain how he drew these conclusions (the first one was obvious, I went 0/3 in lane after he got a few ganks from an Ivern, but 2 of the deaths were solo after he landed max range stuns) but can someone help me by answering my question: In an Ahri vs Xerath lane, who generally wins the lane phase? Thank you.

Ahri is typically one of the best counters to xerath once she has her ultimate. He was an asshole but not a liar. Obviously though that becomes irrelevant if you die enough to ganks.

On paper is Ahri but Xerath can get a fair advantage if he can land a good stun pre-6. After that Ahri shouldn't have many problems in beating him.

I hope Xerath.

When he is going for Q's try to get close and charm him. If he goes into ult and you have charm you should be able to get to him unless he saves it for after you trade with him. If you're far away and he keeps going for Q's you can either try to approach him, or back off. On paper (like Stars Shaper said), Ahri counters him because she can use her ult to gap close and she can disable his hit. However, using your ult to get close means wasting a charge or two to actually get in range. The closer you are to Xerath, the shorter the duration of his E, try to keep this in mind.

Ahri is a Mage/Assassin. If you cant seem to get close to longer range champs, fake a roam by hiding in the bushes (make sure there are no wards ofc), and destroy them. Ofc any champ can do this, but Ahri is known for her ability to roam, and a smart opponent will attempt to follow you. Use that to your advantage.

Ahri is stronger in the matchup with her ult at 6, but Xerath is stronger pre-6. But its mostly skill and prediction the shots/dashes depending on the champion in question. It's like a matchup vs a Riven and a Yasuo. Each have their strong moments in levels points. But it's all skill if you can win in the end.

Basically, if a Xerath dominated you as Ahri. Your plays were to obvious, doing what he expected what you would do. Or you didn't know what you doing with Ahri and lost.

Their abilities are very similar pre6.

All things being equal, Ahri should wreck Xerath's day. His stun is useless when she's on top of him, she has movement speed and dashes to dodge his skillshots (particularly his ultimate), and she can heal up poke that lands on him.
