Is Kassadin finally going to get the rework he's always needed?

Disclaimer: This is about both gameplay and story, so I'm putting it in Gameplay. And I don't know if they are going to rework Kassadin, I just hope they do eventually.

From Taliyah's interactions with Kassadin and the Void champions, the Targonians are definitely not the only ones worried about the threat of the Void. Perhaps Icathia is going to have its own event to include Malzahar, Kassadin, (Varus, to give a lore-friendly meaning to the "Corruption"?) and the creatures of the Void. I'll focus on Kassadin:

#A little background on Kassadin For those who don't know, back in seasons 2-3, Kassadin achieved the highest consistent ban rate of any champion. This was due to the incredible power of a Silence along with Kassadin's incredible --for the time-- mobility and damage.

He had those strengths and a magic-mitigating passive in order to be a strict anti-mage pick. However, his strengths against magi proved to be very heavy strengths against all champions, as he was hard to lock down and even harder to fight.

#Overpowered is Never Good for a Champion, or His/Her Fans As Rioters confirmed following the changes to Sejuani and Cinderhulk, it is their policy to make a champion sub-par after a period of being over-powered. Such is the case with Kassadin. His reign over Ranked and Normal modes in the past has directly resulted in his current state. Don't get me wrong, he's still playable. However, he has none of the strengths of an assassin until late-middle game, and still doesn't unless he buys penetration. He's intentionally been forced into the late game so that his win and play rate are at a "balanced" level (as it's much easier to beat him in lane than it was before). He hasn't had a single real change to his abilities aside from the animations and nerfing their effects.

#I'm hoping they make him anti-void, instead of the outdated/unbalanced Anti-mage. Currently, there is no longer a lore or gameplay related reason for Kassadin's magic shield, silence, or -15% magic damage passive. There is an exactly even number of Void champions of either damage type (whether or not we assume Kog and Malz can be both), so Kassadin no longer has an advantage against the Void. (There's actually more AD champions, if we include Void skins.) There is also only one Void champion with a channeled ability that he can disrupt in a fight-- Vel'koz. Malzahar is in fact one of Kassadin's biggest counters, ever since the Silence was removed. Kassadin can't disrupt the Suppress when he's the target, and it doesn't have a travel time so his alread-slow-moving Q can't land before it unless the Malz has terrible timing.

As far as suggestions go, there aren't many things that could be done to make him specifically a counter-pick for Void champions short of coding it so he recognizes them and takes less damage from them. But he could simply be given a kit that's effective all-around for the role they decide him to be instead of just marginally effective at countering very few magi (there are only around 5 channeled abilities with durations long enough for his disrupt to matter, 2 of which aren't on mages, and anything else will be stopped by damage of any kind regardless of his guaranteed disrupt). The ultimate definitely needs to go, and Voidwalk can be changed in any way at all to give it a better feeling than the void-hop it actually is.

#Conclusion I believe that Kassadin should be reworked with his story in mind, moreso than in "keeping" the anti-mage identity he already lost three years ago. Where Riot decides to go with that, I don't really care as long as they don't half-ass it with a gimmick like they did Mordekaiser.
