I haven't played in awhile and came back to find Malzahar is now completely ineffective, even with max gear his cooldowns are terrible and he just doesn't have survivability nor damage and his movement speed is terrible. Used to be my favorite character.

Its just a Meta shift. Most AP mages have fallen out of the Meta due to Riots rework on them.
Annie fell out because her rework left her kit riddled with bugs that were never fixed.
Malz fell out because he tends to fall off in late team fights now.
Vlad fell out because of spellvamp removal.
Id say the only viable AP mages left are Syndra, Ziggs and brand honestly.
Everyone else fell out because most AP items got hit with nerfs.
We are in an assassin meta again so expect to see lots of those now.
The only assassins you're gonna see are Kat and Leblanc, and maybe the odd Akali. Dunno what they buffed but Akali seems better now. As for Malz, he seems to have become a support now so try him there maybe?

I agree bro, Malzahar is completely dead, specially after the latest 7.3 patch. He has been made SUPER WEAK now. Before 7.3 patch you could E>W(2x rapidly)>R and then Q if enemy didnt die. But now that 1 sec delay has made his attacking weak because you cannot kill the enemy by spawning 1 voidling. and beecause of Malza's ill mobility, he has to surprise the enemy and kill em. Its going to be super difficult to kill enemies now considering you have divers like Zed and Kata. Malza has been just killed and killed in his patches after rework. I really hope he gets a buff soon because he really needs it, as a AP Mage mid.. I hope riot does buff him..maybe get his old W back where numerous voidlings spawned and increase his passive back to 1 sec rather than 0.25. Please riot buff malzahar :( #MalzaharMain
Where are the "Platinum/Diamond/Challenger Malzahars" that are totally crushing ??? THEY DON'T EXIST anymore because QSS renders Malzahar useless.
You know Malzahar is excessively nerfed when You see the GREAT Malzahar players not playing Malz anymore and switching to Swain.
Honestly, I am totally disgusted with RIOT for the excessive nerfs, and they keep nerfing.
With the limited set of AP items available, and his complete lack of tank, and inability to scale, Malzahar's late game is also useless.
Post-rework, the only good thing he received was a shield, with the wonderful gift of nerf after nerf after nerf. The shield is a shadow of what it once was.
He's simply not competitive anymore.
The list of champs that totally crush Malzahar is annoyingly large once they purchase QSS. The only defense Malz has is the turret, so its simple for any decent player to bide his time, get enough HP to take a few turret hits, and get QSS. That's it. Once they reach that point, the game is over for Malz. Since he has no CC other than his ult, they turret dive and take him out.
QSS allows them to move freely under turret even with the ult. GAME OVER.
And that does not even address the fact that the re-worked Malzahar Ult does not do damage if they press QSS anymore. Its supposed to only negate the CC. But it negates the damage as well!
As for support Malz, yea, that is where dead midlane champs go to die. life support needed. No Heal, No Peal, No CC... oh but what about the ult? All the ADC needs is 1 item: QSS and then its no CC. And its cheap and it recycles quickly.
