A thought I had about stats and balance
A lot of Riot's counter arguments to statistics as a measure of balance are that stat sites differ from their internal data, but since those sites pull from Riot's api that doesn't make sense, right? Either Riot:
A) Makes their information available pre-interpretation, which would mean all stat sites (including riot) are all just interpreting the data individually, so any one of them could be the 'correct' interpretation. I'm sure that Riot assumes their methods are 'better', but assuming is not a great thing to do when it comes to empirical evidence.
B) Riot makes the data available after interpretation, which wouldn't make sense because every site has different stats.
or
C) Riot intentionally feeds incorrect information to their api (I highly doubt).
So if we pick the only option that makes sense (A), then Riot is just as likely to have incorrect stats as any individual site, which means that individual stats should be taken with a grain of salt and trends shown on multiple sources should be used instead.
The biggest issue with this theory is that stat sites differ in simple things like overall win rates on champions. This could be caused by a difference in the time when stats are pulled for each site, or it could be the result of a very messed up api system. Anyway, just figured I would share since it basically discredits most arguments about balance and the idea that we are all arguing using incorrect stats most of the time is funny.
