AR URF and Dodging, Normal URF and bans- a discussion
As much as I can say I'm enjoying AR URF, It's starting to get harder and harder to enjoy it due to the copious amounts of times I've gotten a champ I've been PSYCHED to play!.. Only for someone to dodge, and have me roll a champ I've already played to death, or something that I have absolutely 0 desire to play. Having rerolls offers a chance to rectify this, but a lot of the time I'm still stuck with crap.
I expressed my frustration in a LoL discord server I'm a part of, and the majority consensus seemed to be that dodging is 'Okay', and that the only thing that would stop it is having normal URF back. A few did offer more reasonable arguments as to why dodging in this case is alright, but at the same time I still can't fully agree. Dodging a game just because you don't want to play a champion seems selfish in that it has potential to screw over the other 9 players in the match who may have finally gotten what they longed for- but at the same time, I can't 100% fault them for being frustrated with getting stuck with a champion they've played to death, despise, or just don't want to play. 5 minutes of dodge-waiting is a lot less time wasted than a potential 15-30 minutes in a match as something you won't enjoy. One could say that the alternative is to, 'suck it up', because we have AR URF and not normal URF, and nothing will change that, but for those who've enjoyed URF since it's debut, they can't help but be drawn to the gamemode, regardless of their disdain for the AR aspect of it.
But, that all of that said, here's my question and point of discussion:
With the introduction of the 10 ban system, why can't we just have normal URF with sed system in place either alongside, or in the stead of AR URF?
From what I've personally gathered from mulling the topic over, here's some pros/cons for both.
AR URF Pros: -Gameplay stays 'fresh' with (For the most part) a wider variety of champions seeing play. -Potentially fun characters may be discovered VIA champs one might not expect to be fun, but get from the random rolls. -In theory, more longevity due to the unpredictable and random nature of the gamemode. -Riot doesn't have to intervene on champions who are overly broken, as they're likely seen very little.
Cons: -You're gonna spend a hefty amount of games playing as champions you may DESPISE. -Dodging can be frequent. -Frustration from either facing a certain champion/being given a certain champion often despite the 'random' odds
Standard URF with the 10 man ban system Pros: -Full choice on what to play, and when. -Groups can synergize and try silly combos, adding a potentially new fun-factor to the gamemode. -You won't be forced to play a shitty champion, or a champion who isn't as viable/fun in urf. -You can try what you want, when you want, given it isn't banned.
Cons: -In theory, gets old faster. -People are less likely to leave their comfort zones. -Riot may feel obligated to balance it in some ways / ban certain champs due to how problematic they may be. -Certain champions will basically be perma-banned, nobody will every get to play them.
This was a relatively hasty assembly of a post, but hopefully this will spur some discussion in the matter. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
