What attracts a Jungler to camp a lane?

Hi, I'm ICanHazRecon911, I'm a Gold V mid main, but play a decent amount of top, jg, and support as well.

I'm also notorious for getting camped in almost every single game, no matter what the circumstances. I hate to sound salty or like I'm exaggerating but it's really just the truth. No matter whether I'm winning lane, pushing aggressively, sitting under turret, losing lane, or roaming, and even if I'm against a hard counter and losing lane, the enemy jungler will almost always follow me around. They will always to to my lane and poke me till they can make a risky turret dive, even at level 3, and will continue to do so over and over and over again. Yes this is letting off a little steam, but it is a legitimate question as well.

It's gotten to the point where I go into a game assuming the jungler will camp me, even if it is a Yi or a Shyvana, no matter what role I go, even jg, where the jungler WILL bring his friends to kill me, or top, which is supposed to be an island, or support.

Like I said, even if I'm under turret or not pushing at all, I will always get frequent visits from the jungler, so it's not the fact that I push a lot or that I'm a particularly viable/easy target, at least not most of the time since I generally play passively. I'm just getting sick of constantly getting camped and I want to know what to do to stop this, and why, because it's starting to get on my nerves but I know it must be something I do, even if I sit under tower and last hit under tower while playing a champion who's supposed to be aggressive.

I'd guess it's predominantly the champions you play. Some champions are just really important to shut down easy, or really easy to get kills on early.

The alternative is that your enemy laner is notifying their jungler that you're not warding - if you are warding then I'd default to the first point.

If none of the other things listed are there:

Junglers will observe the lane for a bit, and camp the enemy that looks less confident on their champ.

They can also hit tab at 10 mins and check cs.
Ganking for high cs allies and camping low cs enemies because it's easy kills.

Def depends on plenty of reason, Ill name a few below ~ You are playing a farm heavy late game champ Ex. Nasus , Veiger , kass ETC. ~ The jungle and the laner your going against is a duo ~ You are a easy lane to camp, by you pushing to far , going on tilt etc. ~ Maybe your not getting camped, most people remember the games they get camped and wrecked but not the ones where they won lane hard. ~ They saw your match history on a losing streak, or saw you have a bad KDA recently. There are many more reasons on why camping happens, instead of asking how to stop people camping you, use it to your advantage;)

I will generally camp for an ally if they:

  • have demonstrated competence laning (wave control, killing their opponent, responding to invades/skirmishes properly, etc)
  • tell me where and when the enemy laner has warded
  • tell me when champions have used their summoner spells
  • they ask me politely
  • I feel that getting a kill on their opponent will help set me ahead

I will generally camp an enemy if they:

  • don't seem to be warding
  • are regularly pushing or can't control the minion wave
  • have fallen somewhat behind (to prevent them from recovering and to get myself ahead)
  • rage or taunt in all-chat (since those players are generally easy to tilt)
  • play an aggressive and/or snowball-reliant champion (i.e. Riven, Yasuo, Akali, Darius)

While this isn't a comprehensive list, it is a good set of guidelines.

  • Their smurf looked you up and is camping you.
  • Their smurf looked you up and told their jungler to camp you.
  • They looked you up and decided to camp you.
  • They saw your salt in chat after the first gank and decided to camp you.

  • Playing a champ that requires heavy kills / farm to hit potential
  • Crushing lane
  • Getting crushed in lane
  • Randomness (such as enemy mid spamming for help)

I think my reasons have already been said, but just to help iterate certain points, my specific reasons for camping a lane are: -enemy or ally is a stacking champ that I want to slow down or speed up -enemy or ally is an assassin that I want to shutdown/feed -enemy is a heavy pusher and makes ganking easy -enemy expresses rage in allchat and makes me think I can tilt them by camping

When I mid I do my best to figure out the team synergy before the game begins. Who are strong gankers? Zac, Grag, Lee, Shaco. These are just a few examples but I always play more on the safe side when I know I'm facing an enemy jungler who has strong gank potential. Know when certain junglers like to gank. Lee, Shaco, and Kindred are a few Junglers who can gank you at early levels so watch out and play safe. What is the synergy between the mid laner and jungler? Say the mid laner is TF and the jungler is Panth. That is a strong gank because they both have great stuns. Say the jungler is Yi and the mid laner is Talon. That is not a lot of CC but if you overextend after level 6 you will get bursted down faster than you can say "Oh Fuck!". You mention Yi is camping you. By all means let him and deny a kill. Yi needs CS and if he is camping you hardcore, place some strategic wards and notify your jungler (so they can counter jungle).

And lastly try to improve your map awareness. This is something I need to work on a lot. I often get caught up in the cs-ing game and forget I even have a mini-map. Sometimes the jungler or support on your team will place strategic wards in the enemy jungle and you can see the path they are taking. You can also see them bot or top if they show themselves. You can also place some wards deep in the jungle or in bushes or by wraiths so you can see what is going on. Sometimes you get camped and it sucks and there is not a lot you can do about it but you can still be very impactful later in the game. The more you mid lane, the better you will get. Instead of getting mad in a situation just ask yourself what you could have done differently. Should you have just last hit and frozen lane? Was your ward placement good? Were you overextended without flash? Hope this helps. Best of Luck :)

Reeplay4/16/2016, 10:33:42 AM1 votes

If your flash is down, if you are pushed to the point that even a ward can't save you, if you are being pushed to your tower and my laner and I are strong enough to dive you (you over stayed low health more than likely), if I'm in a premade - I say "screw other lanes" and only camp my friends so you will be camped if you are against them in lane, if you are playing a carry laner such as Riven, Vayne, Brand etc., if you are playing a champion with little or no mobility or escapes, if my teammate is playing a carry laner such as Riven, Vayne, Brand, etc. I will put them ahead, if my mid will roam when I put them ahead, lastly if I want your tower. Nine times out of ten it's over aggression that makes me camp you, and if you say something in /all chat, I will likely gank you five times in under seven minutes.

It depends on gankability of a lane. If someone keeps overextending they're often easier to gank, if my ally has cc to lock em down/damage to kill (depending on which type of jungler I am) it's more attractive to gank. If I know the enemy champion is easy to gank it's more attractive, I'm more prone to camping lux/fiora/mordekaiser than zed/leblanc. It depends on the matchup, if I know my laner can win lane with a camp I'm more inclined to camp than if the laner would lose anyway. If my ally is a champion that scales better I'm more prone to camping, if it's the only lane that's decently gankable (other lanes might be winning/losing too hard) I'm more prone to camping. I'm also more prone to camping if the enemy trash talks or whines (gank more pls is met with an "okay")

A bit of a necro here but as a jungle main if you are even half way up your lane and the opponent has any CC at all, it's dinner time.

There are a number of reasons 1)Mid is a popular camping spot 2)Jungler is duoing with mid 3)You are on a losing streak. Junglers love to camp people on a losing streak. 4)You are raging in all chat. Similar to 3, tilting people is fun. Especially when they forget how to english

MunchCrunchLunch4/16/2016, 3:24:13 AM1 votes

you usually camp a single lane as a jungler as you can't effectively go around the map ganking all 3 lanes all the time. you will inevitably end up falling behind on farm unless you get successful ganks. camping a lane. its usually top lane. is very easy. 1v1 lane. you don't lose anything. you usually don't camp a lane where the enemy has escapes. you usually fairly mobile champion. and after 1 successful gank you kinda just keep going to that lane.

Tavish4/16/2016, 3:39:04 AM1 votes

I also tend to get camped a lot, especially when I am playing Gnar. I think it is a result of an aggressive laning style, just play safe when you are getting camped. A few bad ganks will either force him to stop ganking you and wasting time or the jungle will get considerably behind while the rest of the map does well.

BornAgainVirgin4/16/2016, 4:17:59 AM1 votes

It could be just them looking at your stats, or trying to help their friend. dont stick around with low hp and no wards up, and dont go roaming with your summoner spells down and no pink ward or scan trinket to de-ward the enemy. The higher you get, the faster people will react to a mid laner walking through their wards with no summoners up. If i do get camped what i would do is ward their raptors and stuff, if you play Azir Syndra then when the jg goes to do it, slam him really hard (pre-emptive). ward the red/blue and call your jg to come if the enemy is about to go for it, offense is sometimes the best defense

Pafos4/16/2016, 4:23:28 AM1 votes

Reasons why a jungler is going to go to your lane repeatedly

  1. You are easy to kill/ your opponent can make you into an easy kill

  2. overextended most of the time

  3. Your lane opponent is asking the jungler to assist whenever possible

There is no reason for a jungler to go to your lane if there is not much of a benefit to actually gank it, so whatever you are doing you are making the case towards the enemy jungler that you are a good gank.

Also a side note, if you were to go full salt in all chat after an enemy gank, be ready for more ganks.

Sasogwa4/16/2016, 4:34:23 AM1 votes

Well if you know you're camped you can now go challenger knowing it. That means their jungle is wasting time and ressources and leaching his laner's exp waiting for a good opportunity to gank you. Play a safe champion that scale well into lategame, play passive, do so that the lane pushes towards you all the time and auto-win.

Basically, if a jungler is camping you, he sees value in bothering you. A jungler's time is his most precious resource so if he's using it on you, he's probably got a good reason. Either the enemy laner is ahead, you aren't respecting the jungler, you are playing one of those champs who need to be camped, etc. If all the junglers you are facing are doing it, check out those videos and try to see if you are doing anything that makes you an appealing champ to gank.

Really, it's kind of hard to answer specifically without knowing more.
