Stop Leaving Team Builder Queues

People don't seem to realize that one of the main reasons that Team Builder queues are so long is because they leave when it's not a full queue. Of course the AD carry leaves because there isn't a support in the team already, little did he know that the support left earlier because there was no AD carry. Now they go to different queues and wait longer, and the people in the original queue have to wait longer because people were too damn impatient to get into a game. It's completely counter intuitive.

With support being my main role let me give you a little bit of clarification on how we support (and ADC's mains) see the situation:

Our roles are (apparently) the least played, and thus there is almost always no wait time for us to get into a queue. As soon as we hit the ready button, we find a group, if we leave said group, we instantaneously find ANOTHER group waiting for us, wanting us, needing us.

This means a few things:

A) We are not all that likely to wait around in a near empty group, when all it takes is a few clicks and a few seconds for us to find a already full group ready to go. You may end up waiting longer, how ever we do not.

B) Since we do have the option of so many groups wanting us it allows us to cherry pick our teams. Say I'm queuing up as a Soraka support: I am not tanky, and thus I am going to want at least a tank in the jungle or in the top lane in order to balance out our team. If the group I get put into is a Zed mid, Yasuo top, and Kha jungle, I am not going to stay because they all are squishy, and they are all AD. I WILL find a new group and it WILL only take a few seconds.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion you felt as to why us supports and ADC mains don't stick around in every single queue we get put into,

The only time I ever leave Team Builder queues is if the team comp isn't that good. I tend to play squishier champions (Or squishier versions of tanky champions, like 21/9/0 Skarner), so if there isn't anyone tanky on the team, I skip so they can get a better fitting champion, and I can get a better fitting team.

The wait times in TB are so rough for top/mid that I played support Urgod a couple days ago and they actually stayed

I always stick it out, no matter the comp, you'd be surprised what wierd comps I played in that actually ended up winning against the more normal 'meta' comps.

^ But then the teams without either a ADC or Support have to wait like 15 minutes before both lock in together, because one locks in, sees that they have no support, and leave after 5 seconds.......

SorasMemories10/27/2014, 5:09:36 PM3 votes

That happens to me ALL THE TIME. Support leaves and then ADC shows up 2 seconds later, and vice versa. Seriously, what is wrong with people?

UPfreely10/27/2014, 1:48:59 AM3 votes

I usually leave the que because my roles ques are instant. so i pick whatever game's almost ready to go.

Jamini10/27/2014, 3:54:10 PM3 votes

YOUR queues are long, because you play a popular role (mid/top/jungle).

That AD Carry and Support? They will get a new game in thirty seconds.

Space Bum10/28/2014, 3:11:25 AM2 votes

Seems like to me you should probably play normals.... Team builder takes longer because you are there to play the champ you want on a team you like (.)

If I see a gawd awful team comp and I want to go top and i just went through a 5min wait I'll gladly go through another to not waist my time in game that is already lost.

This is also probably why I had a 72% win rate with zyra after 50 games...

I don't think that's the main reason that team builder queues are so long... people that are not jungler / support will usually not make that much of a difference since replacements can be found fairly quickly. Even if they don't leave, it will still mainly depend on how long it takes to get the jungler and support to show up.

I will usually stay and would actually prefer to have strange team comps, but it's understandable if people don't want to stick around. Some people are playing team builder to test out specific things, and it makes sense for people in roles such as support and jungler to try to find either the team comp that they want or to find one that's ready to go.

AD carry seems to be the third role that's most in demand since people seem to prefer solo lanes over duo lane. Depending on the team composition so far, if they are playing some one that will need peeling and will probably not get much of that, it makes sense to go back to the queue and try for a better team comp.

You think this is bad go play some draft. After all the bans and it gets to last pick and that one guy hates the role he is stuck with and dodges. Then when you queue up again somebody gets banned and that person mains that champ, dodged. This on average happens 2-3 times everytime I search for a game.

Drunk Rummate10/27/2014, 1:41:05 PM2 votes

consider the possibility that sometimes people leave because they don't want to play with a gangplank jungler.

now how long does this queues last

i am going to leave a team builder if i see another ADC with ignite+teleport and support with clarity+teleport. or a jungler with ignite+smite.

its a given sign they will lose lane.

Here's the deal, team builder is great for bad roles, and flat out stupid for popular roles. When I want to play support or adc, I do team builder, and I instantly leave any group that doesn't already have 4 other people. Why? Because the system allows me too, and I choose what is best for me (as you should). If I want to play mid or top, I do normal mode. I never do mid or top in team builder. Why? I'm not stupid. Won't find me waiting 5-15 minutes for something I can get in a minute or less in another mode.

Team builder just needs to go away, they didn't think it through when they made it, then didn't think it through again when they added modifications, and they (guess) won't think it through when they add more changes. It's apparent to me when it comes to pre-game systems they are truly clueless. When it comes to gameplay and overall gameplay fun, they rock. Think about it, 5 YEARS into the game and absolutely no solution to when someone leaves or there is an afk. That right there tells you this is a gameplay, not systems company. And if they want to retain the king of the hill status, they better hire smarter people to run the systems portion.

Yeah, I tend to stay and leave based on comp. For example, I've recently had an affinity for playing Graves. If I get into a queue and see that my support is, say, Soraka, who totally does not mesh with Graves's lane-bully all-in style, I'm not gonna stick around. I main jungle though, so say I queue up as Rammus, just to roll into a team with Shen, Galio, Ezreal, and Leona. I'm immediately going to say "wow, we don't do nearly enough damage" and go searching again. It's nothing personal, it's just making a call based on your game knowledge to avoid a risky comp.

FunshineBear198010/28/2014, 12:20:47 PM1 votes

Ideally, Riot should really put a penalty on leaving a group... like can't requeue for like 2 mins if you bail.

GhostStalker10/27/2014, 11:13:17 PM1 votes

I leave team builder queues because I either see really underpowered champions, or Champions that are in roles they dont belong in. I'm not talking about things like Jungle Malphite. But things like Twitch Top. Or even Malz top. That shits bad.

Quantum Weeb10/27/2014, 1:28:18 PM1 votes

I leave queue because I don't trust people not to kick me out. It sounds stupid, but if you're not ADC/support, you can spend 15 minutes waiting only for the leader to decide they don't really want a Viktor mid and just kick you out.

M1key10/27/2014, 8:27:54 PM1 votes

The problem with teambuilder is that blind pick still exists. Most people would rather just suck it up and go blind pick if it means they don't have to wait 20 minutes for a support. If teambuilder is going to work Riot's gotta either disable blind pick or figure out another way to get people to actually play teambuilder. No one wants to wait forever so there's just not enough people queued for it.

After reading the other comments I can understand why people chose to leave especially ADCs and Supports. Except I have played both of these roles before and have left before and did not instantly get placed into a new game ( This doesn't happen much but it sometimes isn't as fast as people make it seem). The one time I did leave is because the captain was okay with 2 ADCs and I really didn't want to play like that. Also, another strange thing is I have seen, (and this has happened to me once or twice) that the captain will kick someone because they just don't like that champion. The team could be full or almost full and they will finally decide to kick someone (I had this happen, the captain said that he just didn't like Vel' Koz. I tried to convince the captain to let me stay and so did the teammates but he just plain out didn't like him- didn't matter if I played him well or not), this can be super frustrating as well.

On the other had these leavers who dodge your team can lead to interesting things. When I am captain and I am tired of waiting for Meta champions to fill the role, I will almost take anyone. One time I took a Jayce support with a Meta ADC. It ended up working fantastically, the Jayce let the ADC have all the kills (in lane). Then he got fed too. Lets just say we ended up winning. I've taken some other "weird" things too and I have ended up being thankful for it. It can make for a fun game.
