In need on game play tips.
Currently at Plat 5, was Plat 3 recently, but dropped due to a series of bad games, mostly because of matchmaking (some afks, some trolls, some 0/8 top laners etc), and 2 of them were mostly my fault as well. My playstyle is kinda weird, but probably common. I have the mindset of "can't depend on anyone else to carry me, so I have to do it". SoloQ random matchmaking is a place where you don't know who you are placed with, so you can't know if a player is good or bad. Even scouting their KDA and win rates on their picked champions is usually not enough, which makes me the only known variable.
This usually leads me to have a lot of pressure on myself and the plays I do, sometimes, just because I feel I need to do well and go the extra mile and do "something more", leads me to take risks, which sometimes they pay off, good, sometimes they don't, and that's not good. For example, if I play Graves, I feel the need to be super aggressive, invade the enemy, try and trust myself on my ability to outplay my enemies and gain a lead, even though I know sometimes, this is risky. Sometimes, it works out and I get big leads, solo kills and a lot of pressure, other times I'm getting collapsed on and die, and the enemy gets that lead and pressure. This is definitely what I call a risk, but I feel like it's something I need to take, if I wanna have chances to win, because, again, I can't really rely on my teammates to carry me.
Before I do any risky plays, I tend to wait and see how my team usually plays. I watch the lanes, see how they trade or cs, and I get a feel on if they are good or bad. Sometimes, if I see someone getting solo kills and hardly outplaying the enemy, I will take a backseat and make the safe plays, but that doesn't happen often.
So, I need advice from higher elo players. Is this risky aggressive playstyle correct? Is my mindset about not being able to trust others correct? How effective is a playstyle which takes no risks, yet if the team falls behind, you basically can't salvage the game?
