A year late, but Ryze's ultimate is super hard to coordinate in solo q,

For example, let's say I (as Ryze) am with my jungler in the bot side jungle. Jungler pings help on drake and we head towards it. Jungler is quicker than I am, and gets quite far ahead. I ping my ultimate, ping for help, and ping omw to Drake. Jungler keeps going on his way. I cast my ultimate on Drake. Jungler sees, and goes back. My ultimate goes off before jungler makes it. Now the jungler has to switch directions once more towards drake again.

This is just an innocent example of trying to use Ryze's ult to help my team, but ends up essentially hurting them. Much worse things can happen had I used it in a fight.

It would be a very nice QoL change if there were some sort of pseudo-R ping. For instance, Command+R would show where I intend to use my ultimate. It would be an omw ping with "Realm Warp" as the text, plus a help ping over Ryze also with the same text. This would inform allies of what I specifically plan to do, allowing for better team work.

I think these changes would make it much better to utilize this very situational ultimate. Along other champion ultimates as well: Taliyah, Bard, TK, etc.

Don't worry. That will get fixed with his upcoming rework ;)

Same with TahmKench. I try to ult from fountain to lane and save my adc some time - he walks right past me. I ping the jungler to use my ult and gank a lane - he also walks right past me.[zombie-nunu-bummed]

I see many problems even though I think you have a valid point:

  1. Always ask, how would trolls utilize this change? Fool others by fake initiating? Annoying others with big circles on your screen?

  2. You are trying to directly translate professional play to solo queue, something that is not happening with any champion. Ryze ultimate is comparable with TwistedFate ultimate if you use it just solo. Thats how I believe you must compare it. Professional players do play different in solo queue compared to in LCS. Because naturally in pro teams you can coordinate plays, and in solo queue you have to adapt. I think you have to adapt your Ryze play accordingly. When you are solo, you must take that into consideration and use Ryze ultimate accordingly.

  3. The game allows you to team up with friends, and encourages you to do so. Therefore you are able to coordinate this kind of play with friends! But you can't ever force coordination between random players in solo queue.

It would also be appropriate for allies, at least, to get a visual indicator of how much time until the Ult actually occurs - something as simple as Zilean's bomb indicators, or even something like the slowly-disappearing circle that Naut's passive gets.

after witnessing Ryze' do-nothing-ult get interrupted for the 10th time I've filed him under garbage.

I like the ping idea talhm should get the same thing and maybe kalista so she doesn't just scare the shit out of you when she ults and expects you to go in and tank 5 champions

The best change that could be done for Rzye's ult in solo play is to give him bonus resistances while chanelling it. It is used much more for escapes than ganks in casual play, and this would buff its use there while having relatively little impact on high-level play.

Good post. Riot has expressed, many, many times, balance concerns relating to Ryze differentiation in high and low skill players. An extremely weak ult in uncoordinated play, and awesome playmaking in pro play, feeds directly into the problem they're struggling with.

What's interesting is how Riot thought of Ryze's ult. Twisted Fate's ult, is arguably very powerful, and used to be a big playmaker for across the map ganks. TF declined in use, however, for more reliable/powerful champions like Taliya.

So when they reworked Ryze, it seems like they thought; "TF ult is really powerful, and it's a single Teleport anywhere-within-range ability. So therefore, Ryze's GROUP teleport anywhere-within-range ultimate should be up to FIVE times more powerful!!!"

This couldn't be further from the truth, except in premade teams or the Proscene. And since Riot balances only around the proscene, Ryze's ultimate won't be checked at all for a long time, not even for QOL changes.

Your idea may be an good improvement for SoloQue, though I still wouldn't feel comfortable using it in game. I've seen way to many videos of a team being blown up after TPing somewhere.
