Interesting Lux Rework Concept
As a Lux support main, I have always been criticized for using
at bot lane. Whether it´s in normals or ranked, other players spill out countless reasons why Lux, in general, is a poor choice in games, especially as a support character. As a player who has played almost every game with her since day 1, I got used to all of her downsides and adapted my playstyle to it. However, the new meta doesn´t match up with Lux potential anymore, along with many other champions. Many do not like her long cooldowns, seemingly useless cc, mana wasting, lack of mobility, low base armor and magic resist stats, you name it, I have heard it all. What bothers me the most is that they always use
to prove that there is a champion that does Lux´s job better since both have similar playstyles. After many weeks of analysis, I realized that even professional League players seldom choose Lux. Last time I´ve seen Lux been played in a high-tier competitive match was in season 3 finals or something. Which finally led me to accept that Morgana has more competitive presence than Lux. I fear that someday, Lux will be one of those characters like, Taric, who are forgotten and that used to be useful in the competitive arena.
After a while, I began developing an Idea that may bring Lux back to the pro matches and found a very interesting way to do so. I have been thinking that the lady of lasers may need a kit rework. Its main focus will be by assimilating her abilities with her lore.
Here I quote her lore, which says: "As Lux matured, it became clear that she was extraordinarily gifted. She could play tricks that made people believe they had seen things that did not actually exist. She could also hide in plain sight. Somehow, she was able to reverse engineer arcane magical spells after seeing them cast only once."
According to her lore, Lux can REVERSE ENGINEER SPELLS by only seeing them once. This can be implemented into her abilities through the following way: Her new ability, a passive ability, will reverse engineer a champion's ability and replace one with her own with it. For those who don´t know: Reverse engineering, also called back engineering, is the processes of extracting knowledge or design information from anything and reproducing anything based on the extracted information.
...
How can she do that? What abilities would she copy?, What determines which ability can be copied or not?
Allow me to explain
There will be certain limits to the spectrum of spells she can Reverse Engineer.
Firstly, the amount of copiable spells per champion will be only one, meaning that Lux can only RE one specific ability per specific champion, which means that Lux can only copy
´s Orb of Deception, when faced against Ahri.
Secondly, the spells she can RE *(aka Reverse Engineer from now on) must involve magic, as stated in her lore, so abilities or spells that involve physical use of a champions body or weapon cannot be copied. Example:
abilities cannot be copied,
abilities cannot be copied,
abilities cannot be copied while
´s Incinerate can be Reverse Engineered,
Orb of Deception can be copied and so on.
Thirdly, Spells that involve bringing an opponent to oneself are out of the picture. Reason? Lux is not a close range champ, therefore, the magical spells she can RE will have to be ranged spells. Example, Lux cannot copy
,
or
abilities.
And to answer how would she do that, she would only need to see the champion do his/her copiable ability at least once within Lux´s range of vision.
"NEW" PASSIVE ABILITY PROPERTIES
- This ability will be Lux´s second passive, obviously named "Arcane Reverse Engineering"
- Every 150 or 300 seconds (still unsure), Lux will be able to replace one of her abilities (the player chooses which one) with the Reversed Engineered Spell. In order to do so, Lux must be within 700 or 800 units (still unsure) when a champion (Friend or Foe) does its specific spell. It cannot be changed until the next 150 or 300 seconds. The player can choose between discarding the spell or keeping it. If the player chooses to discard the Reverse Engineered Spell and not replace it with another spell, Lux will keep her default abilities (Light Binding-Prismatic Barrier-Lucent Singularity).
- People may omit step 2 completely, and keep Lux´s normal kit throughout a whole game.
"NEW" REVERSED ENGINEERED SPELLS PROPERTIES
- Reverse Engineered spells will copy the champions base damage, cooldowns and passives belonging to that ability only from the champion.
- CC from champion passives such as
and
are not copied.
- Reverse Engineered spells will ALL have a 0.7 ap scaling and same mana costs as Light Binding (50/60/70/80/90)
- Reverse Engineered spells will all apply the Illumination Debuff.
- The copied spell will have the same length, cc percentage and animation as the normal spells, but will have a Light Theme Color
"IN-GAME "EXAMPLE
is laning against an
. He uses Blades of Torment towards
, barely hitting her. Lux can now Reverse Engineer that spell, knowing that the only spell she can copy from Aatrox is his Blades of Torment Ability. After selecting which spell she replaced her new copied spell, she now has that spell for the next 150-300 seconds. Whenever Lux uses Blades of Torment, she damages Aatrox with 75/110/145/180/215 (+0.7 ap scaling) magic damage and will slow him by 40% for 1.75/2/2,25/2.5/2.75 seconds.
In this example, Lux replaced her Light Binding with "Light" Blades of Torment. So pressing q will activate the ability.
Also, Blades of Torment has a 12/11/10/9/8-second cooldown, which Lux will also share
In ranked/competitive gameplay, Reverse Engineering will allow summoners to make
tactical decisions
depending on whatever situation Lux is in.
-
If Lux has an advantage over her opponent, she can Reverse Engineer an enemy
Crescent Strike or an enemy
Flash Frost for more burst. -
If Lux is falling behind in lane, she can Reverse Engineer an ally
Howling Gale to disengage team fights or ganks
By giving Lux a very broad range of Spells; her unpredictability and Tactical Adaptability will compensate for her main flaws that are very punishable in the current meta.
To conclude, I would like to know what do you guys think about this, whether you agree or disagree and why. I still have to develop the list of exceptions since not all champs do magical spells. If anyone has questions, please ask away, I am more that willing to change some aspects of this concept.
Good Day!
