So on the note of these new Champion Mastery levels...
A small suggestion:
Players are already required to have a certain prerequisite number of available champions in order to play ranked, but that doesn't mean that they necessarily know all the champions they have. Granted, a good player should be acquainted with at least the basics of a champion they're about to take into the Rift, but no one can deny that we've all seen people either trying out new builds, trying a champ out for the first time, or just plain trolling with their champ of choice in ranked.
So, what if the Champion Masteries were integrated into ranked play when the system moves out of beta? In order to play Ranked you must not only have an adequate number of available champions, but you must also have a certain grade with those champions. This would eliminate someone who's trying a champion out for the first time altogether, and anyone who's reached a high enough grade to play ranked with a champion, say a B or whatever, would also already know what to build and when so they wouldn't be using up ranked matches to test something out. Just because a champion is a counter pick to the enemy doesn't mean it should be selected, and we've all seen someone lose lane because they decided that counter picking was more important than picking what they knew.
I feel like this would be a huge step in the right direction to eliminating a lot of the issues that people complain about in Ranked play! For instance, I absolutely love Nocturne, and I fully intend for him to be an A+ champ when the masteries go into effect, assuming that I can play him well enough to reach that level. So naturally if I take him into a ranked match I'm not going to want to troll with him, I won't want to test something out and experiment, I'm going to want to do what I know I can do where I know I can do it when I know I can do it. I've learned Nocturne, so to play him at anything less than his full potential would be a waste of my time, and my team's time, and possibly result in a loss. I would bring dishonor to my family.
Sure this is one more thing that people have to prepare for when going into Ranked, above and beyond just making sure they have enough champions, but in the grand scheme of things isn't it better overall that there's a guarantee that not only does someone have a deep enough champion pool for Ranked play, but that they've also spent quite a bit of time swimming in the deep end of that pool?
Thoughts, suggestions? Perhaps some feedback from a Red if this is something that you guys have already toyed around with the idea of? I really think this could help out.
