I have an idea that would allow us to remove runes AND rework masteries properly.

The idea revolves around a champion getting rune-like bonuses based on what specific role; APC: Bonuses to AP/M-pen Bruiser: Bonuses to HP/damage ADC: Bonuses to ASP/Crit damage Diver: Bonuses to Armor/damage Assassin: Large bonus to damage Tank: Bonuses to HP/MR/Armor Support: Bonuses to CDR/AP And then you rework masteries so that they compliment the core three roles: Damage carry, Tank, and Support. You would do that by making each core simply compliment their intended purpose. Damage would be non-raw damage things that increase ones ability to do damage like phage or old focus. Tank just needs to be flat better. And support needs summoner spell enhancements with CDR and utility increases.

We dont need the illusion of choice, just AP/AD and burst/DoT splits for the most part.
