How to have better macro

Macro is game knowledge right? So anyway i played a game and we definitely had the lead and were winning fights but i had no idea what objective to take after. My map awareness is also pretty crap. So after we were in the base and took the bot inhib they chase us down and being the nice guy that i am i had to peel for my teammate and ended up dieing. Their fed Yas then tped bot and killed our nesux. If i had just been a jerk and backed off you think i could have prevented the game ending?
