A discussion on why the recent changes will fail.
With the recent changes to two of my favorite champions coming up, I thought I'd toss my two cents in on why these...changes, are ultimately going to affect very little at all, if not be downright harmful to the champions they target.
Lets start our discussion with the Iron Man of League. Mordekaiser currently is a champion defined by his...rather unusual playstyle or rushing into team fights and spamming his spells to keep up his shields and hopefully get a kill from children of the grave. Dfg was an essential part of this, given it's unique assets, and with it's removal...Well you'd have to be brain dead to ever get killed by Mordekaiser. Lacking any form of cc, or boost, Mordekaiser has not aged well with his release and recent developments only compound this. His shield being as powerful as it is has kept him from having any good damage (Well it's ok...nothing to write home about, and the range is incredibly short). Adding to this is Mordekaiser's complete inability to effectively use half of his kit toward anyone with any range, since they can simply kite him while he tries to get closer to them. The Pbe changes make his shield a bit more reliable...but offer absolutely nothing to fix some of the biggest problems of the Iron Giant. Simply put, Mordekaiser has no way if fighting you if you don't want to fight him. His movement speed is fairly low, and the aforementioned lack of cc is a massive hindrance to his ability to fight. Sure thier adding a movement speed boost to his defense boosting Aoe...but it's circumstantial and only takes effect if mordekaiser is running toward the ally hit with the second half of the ability, meaning it will be far more effective for retreat than closing any gaps. If we're being frank here, Mordekaiser NEEDS some way to close the gap between him and an opponent. Nobody with half a brain is going to sit there and fight Mordekaiser (Except champs like Udyr or Jax, who would wipe the floor with Morde 1v1), and just about every champion has a way of disabling Mordekaiser's ability to hurt them. Mordekaiser is countered by an absolutely minimal amount of effort on the other players part, and unless this is addressed...nothings going to change with these changes.
Veigar's changes are a straight up nerf to the master of evil, but lets take a closer look at why. Like Morde, one of Veigar's biggest weaknesses is his lack of mobility...although making up for this is his stun. Or rather it was, until the pbe-changes made it take nearly a second to come back up. His Q change also makes it unreliable to use and a pain to attempt to poke with since it stops on the second target...and you'd have to be braindead to wander far infront of minions. And his W, which was untouched, is remaining near impossible to be hit by now that he doesn't have a reliable way to setup for it with his stun. While a tiny bit less mana hungry...The changes are looking to hurt Veigar even more than they might help him. Another of his problems is how squishy he is, though his massive stun helped this problem. Now the problem is that he lacks any real way to defend himself from enemies without perfect planning ahead. Assassin's, who already made his life painful, will only be an even bigger problem since he's unable to effectively get away without a large amount of luck...or even hit them with anything besides his R, which had it's ratios nerfed in exchange for Q hitting 2 targets.
So now the biggest question...what exactly is the point of these changes? They do absolutely nothing to address any of the problems with the champions in question, and in Veigars case actually make him worse in regards to what they attempt. That these changes are 'locked' is baffling given the lack of forethought into how little they will contribute to fixing the two's overarching problems with the removal of DFG.
