Any Tips on Becoming a Better Player?

I have been playing this game since the spring of last year. Didn't begin playing ranked until the late summer and I did not find success. After being placed Bronze 1 for solo queue I dropped to bronze 5, and struggled to pass bronze 3. After experiencing similar results so far this season I thought that I could play better, I looked at more champion guides and began thinking about my decisions more but still wasn't climbing. I'd like to leave bronze behind me and be able to carry more games on my own. I've got a few questions. Out of the three roles I like (Top, Mid, Jungle) which two should I pick to climb? I am aware two of my weaknesses are low cs per minute and roaming. For top I like to play Gangplank Jax TahmKench and for mid my favorites are Taliyah AurelionSol Ryze . I'd really appreciate tips on my roles, champs, itemization, mechanics, or general game knowledge. I don't mid constructive critizism but please don't just call me trash without offering help. Thanks in advance

Unless you're a god at video games (especially fighter style games), you're not going to become pro when you first start. It's a complex game, where sometimes you have to do everything perfect to be successful, and even then it may not work out. You are already doing great things to improve yourself like looking for help/resources, self evaluation, understanding weaknesses. Continue doing so! I've looked up guides for like 2 years, about every time i load up. You can watch replays of your games to figure out what decision you should've done. it's important to understand that only you can climb yourself (exception, boosting), so even if bot goes 0-14 and there was literally nothing you could've done to prevent the adc from poor positioning, still look at that game and question how you could've played differently. There are many videos that state "how to climb" or "difference between low elo and high elo" or even "how to play (insert champ here)". Help your team and ward.

To answer your questions: 1: What role? I have seen different sources stating different things: that it's about playing meta champs and team comp; support out of bronze, mid out of silver, adc out of gold (not exactly what that source said); and play your most comfort. But I would say between Top, mid, and jg it doesn't matter. If you want, take whats best of all stated: pick a meta champ that fits into almost any comp or a few champs, and spam them. Or, what I do, play what you want and git gud with that style of play because it is a game that is suppose to be enjoyable. I think if you want to git gud on such roles, then picking two isn't bad because it's easier to stay proficient when you narrow your focus, but which two doesn't matter. But obviously understand all roles, in case you need to Phill it or play in-sync with that role.

2: CSing and Romes? Create a custom game and do drills. Practice last hitting for 10 minutes without using abilities only AAs. Start over, and practice 10 minuets, using only abilities. Start over, practice 10 minutes combining. If you can't get high % of cs on these drills, remember that you don't have an opponent in your face. So git gud with that. For roaming, it's largely based on wave control. Practice good wave control, you'll understand opportunities to roam or command your lane. Took me a long time to figure that if you want to freeze a lane right out side of turret is to always have 4 enemy minions alive, and if the lane is in the center you need 3. If the wave touches a turret, its going to bounce back the opposite way. If you want to roam, its best to do when your wave is going to hit their turret, but don't roam too early unless you know the reward is worth it because you don't want to lose early game exp. If you notice the enemy bot is playing really aggressive and your teammates are hugging their turret, go bot. If someone mentions so-in-so flashed, go to that so-in-so.

I'm not a great player myself. I struggle to get out of silver 2. Silver 2 has been my home for too long. I understand the struggle, so even if you read what i said, or what others say here, you probably won't be diamond at the end of it. But keep trying and never stop learning. (>**)> Riven

Practice cs on gangplank and just hammer out games with him he is a carry lord just play with him and if you need some tank play tahm Kench. You don't really have to worry about roaming on gp thanks to his global ult and he scales so hard and can get you out of bronze if you get good at him

Some of the absolute biggest Elo killers in bronze are the following...

Map awareness Engaging without knowing where the enemy team is / how soon your team will be able to follow up.

Getting GREEDY (ex of you are in lane and burn the enemy flash, a lot of times it's better to let it go than flash after them and get killed by their turret or jungle tank while chasing. This is especially true early game)

Over staying (your team took a tower, cool! You think you might take another one but their karthus is about to respawn and nuke your team which is low from your team fight, or an enemy eve is otw to clean up, prolly best to back and not underestimate their damage resulting in a triple kill or more.)

Herald and dragons, make it a point to try to take Herald around the 17 minute mark or sooner if possible, especially if you are playing a champion with good tower taking potential (Jax)

Know when to build what item! Do you usually build damage first? Well maybe after giving up first blood you should switch to building tank, I stead of trying to finish the damage item you started just to finish it. Nothing wrong with having a few unfinished items if you are building smart.

The two biggest tips I can give to anyone at almost any elo is this.

  1. Ward, and ward often.

  2. Look at the minimap and keep track of who is doing what and when, and most importantly, when someone disappears. Just glance at the minimap and make sure that people are where they should be. If you don't see the jungler or mid laner, ward or back off and recall. That or just be damn sure you can win a 2v1 or even a 3v1.

In short, use map awareness.

Just looking at your op.gg, I wouldn't recommend picking jungle to climb, or atleast don't pick kha'zix. You said your favorite mid laners are Ryze Taliyah AurelionSol, so play them more. You don't have many games on any of them, but you won the 1 game you played on taliyah and a sol, and won 3 out of 4 of the games you played on ryze.

To practice csing, go into a custom game (or practice mode) with no runes or masteries, and just practice last hitting. Try to use as few abilities as possible, so just last his with AAs. Do that for 10 minutes, then start over and do it again, and try to beat the CS you had the last time. It's boring, but it's incredibly important.

For roaming, learn how to control a wave and when a good time to roam is. The 3 mid laners you mentioned are great at roaming. Clear a wave, and watch where the next wave is. Try to make your roam short enough so you can get back without missing much if any of the creeps.

I just wanna say thanks for those tips all of you. Just had two very nice Taliyah ranked games and another on Annie. I really feel like I have improved my cs and roaming a lot since before this post. Ill keep you updated :^)

Perhaps, no offense to your skills, but try playing easier champs. Taliyah, Sol and Ryze are all mechanically difficult champs, quite more so than others; Gp is as well, considering the Silver Serpent farming and the barrel farming game. They all have multi dimensional kits that are quite versatile, but it makes it quite difficult to play them.

If you're not csing well, GP is definitely not a good option. Aurelion is one of the hardest champs to cs with in game. Maybe try playing easier champs to cs with (ex. Zed, Cho'Gath, Malzahar)

If you're not very good with roaming, I'd also recommend against Tahm. I'm just a gold myself, but from the past season and a half of playng Tahm top, he's definitely strong, but the true potential really comes from his ult roam. If something like

Ult (with jungler) for a 2-man gank -> Secure an objective (mid turret, bot turret, drag, etc) -> After ganking, teleport to top to not lose any cs/exp

happens, then you've pretty much just wrapped the entire game. This tactic puts you so much ahead of the other team. It really depends on if you can see the roaming timings or not.
