I feel like there is some fundamental piece of information I'm missing

I just suck. I've been stuck in Bronze V since the season started, and I've been trying to improve so I could just get better. I don't think I'm getting anywhere, so could I get some general pointers to get me going in the right direction?

A few thoughts:

  • It looks like you play a fair range of roles in ranked at the moment (everything but top to some degree). Getting breadth of understanding like that's useful, I'd suggest trying to focus on just a couple of roles for a little bit, see whether more concentrated exposure/practice on the same champs/lanes/scenarios helps.
  • A habit I know works for some people is taking a brief period at the end of each game to try and figure out what the single biggest thing you should have done better, win or loss, was, and then making a note of that on paper or in a document. Stuff like 'kept getting caught out', 'wasn't warding enough', 'sat on too much gold' etc. That gives you a list of things you can look back on to figure out trends in your play and remind yourself about before a game starts.
  • A lot of people, myself very much included, don't use active items as frequently as they should. It looks like you buy actives pretty regularly when playing support. If you're not already making great consistent use of them suggest regularly reminding yourself to use them to build good habits. If that means initially having one less active in your inventory so you can focus more on getting a core one right first that might be a good trade off.

  1. Learn to last hit. More gold equals more power for you. CS is the best way to get gold. Also, practice your jungle clear paths.
  2. Get OBS and record your games. That might help you see mistakes you are making.
  3. Play simple champs, preferably ones with a high win rate.
  4. Practice more games in normals. Particularly if you've lost a pair of games in ranked.
  5. Accept it is going to take time to get better.
  6. Always take responsibility when things go bad. Never blame teammates.
  7. Never start a game when you are tilted, angry or tired.
  8. Die less. Dying is bad when you are doing it. Figuring out how to prevent deaths will be tough, but rewatching your games will help.
  9. WATCH THE BLEEPING MINIMAP ALL THE BLEEPING TIME
  10. Remember to have fun.

Try watching "Leaguecraft 101" all of the points made in that series are a helpful starting point for ANY player.

Also, prioritize CS over EVERYTHING until you can consistently land last hits without really focusing on it; this allows you to not fall behind even when pressuring in lane.

In the case of support, the Leaguecraft 101 videos show you what you need to focus on in a few of them as opposed to focusing on CS.

My biggest tip is to learn how to reliably not lose lane. There's this huge misconception among players that you're supposed to win lane. You aren't. You need to not lose lane; that will put you in a position to perform your role much more consistently than making risky plays in an attempt to win your lane.

Playing a select few champs in a select few roles helps a lot with that, due to match-up/power-spike familiarity.

When you lose 2 games in a row in ranked - stop playing for that day, and go play normal or sth.

Play to survive, don't chase Vision, vision, vision. Never roam the jungle if you don't know where your opponents are. Place wards, use the trinket and buy reds Take objectives over kills: if you fight and the enemy is running away with 2hp, don't chase them, take a tower or a dragon instead, roam, or steal their jungle

but really, the first and foremost thing in lowest elo is: play to survive, people just get mad for kills

Could be a few things.

I've reached NA D2 as support only. So from the perspective of supports I can give you a few pointers. None of them will be game related. They will be player related.

  • Learn to not tunnel. This is a EXTREMELY common mistake that even high end players are guilty of, they will focus so much on one target they don't realize 2 enemy champs are right behind them.

  • Watch others and try to figure out exactly why they do the things they do. Educational or One trick youtube videos are really helpful here as they tell you exactly why and how they did what they did. Good channels I know of are Huzzy and Solorenektononly

  • Build healthy lane habits. This means every so often, checking the mini map, ensuring your warding, and checking chat. Simple, but master this alone and you can easily get to gold.

  • Learn to lose efficiently. YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE. IT IS A CORE PART OF THE GAME. The part that many rookies don't realize is to sit back and go... exactly how did I lose that game, and how could I have turned it around. Focus of YOU, not your team, you can't change them... but you can change your habits and behavior.

As someone who has been at BV with 0 LP TWICE this season, I just got into B2, the highest I've ever been ranked. I feel like I'm on pace to make it to Silver+. I pretty much main MissFortune but that's not why I win. I win because I've learned not to flame my teammates all the time. I've learned that it's ok to let other players die if I don't feel comfortable fighting a fight. I've learned to get carried. I've learned how to stay out of trouble if I fall behind so I can still be useful to the team. As a marksman main I honestly watch a lot of Challenger level solo queue, I listen to what they say about positioning and certain things to look for when playing (imaqtpie and doublelift are two of the best imo). Basically being more aware all around. Learning to up your CS is a great way to get ahead in lane without necessarily getting a kill. If your support gets a kill don't get mad because chances are you got an assist, and now your support is more fed than their support which is never bad. Knowing when to pick a fight is also key. If that Blitzcrank whiffs on his hook, there's a good 25-40 seconds he's useless.

There definitely are certain champions that are more powerful than others. That's the state of the game all the time. So avoid picking things you aren't familiar with just because some website said it was a counter pick. I have over 300K mastery points in MF, I've played against pretty much everything, so I don't worry too much about what counters ME, as much as I worry about what counters my team's primary win condition. Also try to pick into what the enemy picks into. I.E. they pick an aggressive support, don't pick a support that has to stand in the back and just hope you survive to late game (Soraka/Janna), pick something equally as aggressive.

The main thing though is, don't flame. Learn that some games you are going to get behind, a teammate is going to get behind, that is the nature of League.

Thanks all, now that I think about it, lately I have been trying to play a lot of assassins, but I seem to do well consistently with ahri, considering her skill set is simple enough, and it allows me to stay out of the middle of teamfights and stay at a safe range while still benefitting my self and the team. So I will play her midlane mostly and see how things go from there, while taking these points into consideration. My most experience is in the support role, so I could just stick to that as well.

I escaped bronze by spamming Aatrox and Mordekaiser every game back in season 5. Nobody knew what they did, giving me quite a big advantage.
