How to gain game knowledge when not playing?

I hope this isn't a confusing question, but I'm wondering how to develop game knowledge when I am not playing the game. Should I read the wiki, etc?.. Thanks for any information.

Don't read wikis. I would watch coaching videos. There are even youtubers who dedicate their time to making informational league videos. You just have to look it up.

Sometimes watching pro streamers help... I personally like NB3 he is upbeat and positive most of the time and when he rages he cuts the stream. Its a reminder that everyone can tilt.

Watch videos and/or theorize.

Use "what" happened as the starting point of your theories, and focus primarily on the "how"s and "why"s. For example, just watch a video of double melee bot lane kick ass. Figure out exactly how it worked; why both of them rushed Targon's or how they played in lane to minmax their weaknesses and strengths, so on.

I'd recommend watching videos of high-tier players. (Diamond and above)

I wouldn't read the wiki unless you're prepared to do a lot of math. I know because I was up late last night crunching numbers off pages like this: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Armor Add crit and lifesteal calculations into that and I felt like I was doing an entire college project.

EDIT: Sometimes I watch LCS/Worlds games to see what their habits are. (I also learned about what exactly each dragon buff does from watching pro games.) One really important thing I learned from paying attention to ADCs in pro games is how to position and to consume heal pots even when you're at 80% hp.

Spectate games, see what people do and if you can try and see if a particular death could be avoided or even better approached. I watch my friends play and kind of just see what they do or do differently if they're playing my main. Yes, even though I have more than 500 games on Ahri, I'm always looking to improve my play or even find something that could help in a situation.

Build a BRAIN Machine that sucks up all the internet right into your Cereberal Cortex. You may turn into a Donald Trump for a while or maybe a Justin Beeber but hey, no worries.
