People in this game are really harsh to new players

I still remember my first league PvP game. I took Ryze with smite (since I thought smite worked on champions) and on the champ select screen someone started saying: "WTF Ryze is not a jungler lol haha look at this noob". I had no idea what a jungler was so I asked him and he said "haha you don't even know what a jungler is? lol u noob u should uninstall while you still can". As soon as the game started he said in /all chat "pls report rize he is trolling", and people on the other team started saying "ok", "sure bro". I didnt know how to type in /all chat so i kept saying "sorry im new to this game" in our own chat and he said "lol, well i hope you enjoy your ban noob". I panicked and left the game and next time I tried to connect I had a 24h ban on my account. It was a very bad experience that almost made me quit league but since that day I started playing with my real life friends so I didn't have to deal with that anymore. Right now I understand that he was just being toxic and I should have ignored him but since it was my first game I actually thought it was my fault. So what I'm saying is if you are an experienced player, please, be patient to new players and if you are also new you should learn that there are many players like this and you should play with friends while you are still learning or just ignore them, I can't imagine how many people have gone through that like me, thinking it was their fault.

To be clear, you were most likely banned by LeaverBuster BECAUSE you left the game. Did you not read the warning?

Still, that doesn't excuse the behavior of that person. A single person can run someone's experience. Hopefully, they were permanently banned for their (likely multiple) abusive words.

I'm nice to everyone, I have real world problems to deal with... I don't need to be all crabby and shit when I am playing something that is supposed to make me happy.

I joke around a bit when I can, but as long as you are nice so am I. Losing is a part of any game, and that's what makes it fun.

I can tell that new players really do have a hard time getting used to the game, because most of the times there are players with high level accounts that make new to bully new players, sadly you were one, i remember i played some games with bots and i saw players doing bad things like insulting others for buying item 3075 item 3068 on Asheand item 3115 on Annie, i told him you don't need to insult him because clearly he doesn't know the game yet instead tell him what to do and what to buy so that way you ensure a good experience for the player..

Last month i was leveling up a new account and i found per game new players so i added them and played with them so that way they learn faster and without being harassed for not knowing that to do..

After reading that, I just want to give you a hug. Amumu

I agree that there are a lot of jerks playing this game; I went through a lot of them too when I started here, which was fairly recently.

Honestly Riot has done nothing ever for this game to deserve new players. Why should we deal with new players getting trolled like this when all thats going to happen is they get into ranked have to deal with it there forever. Why should we reward a system that actively seeks to fuck new players over with fake runes and a terrible tutorial etc. Riot and lol don't actually deserve new players and experienced ones are just to far in the hole to back out. I genuinely think that new players should just not even try because its not like it gets any better

Riot's done a piss poor job properly introducing new players to the games.

The tutorial is useless The meta is never explained, yet is heavily enforced by both the community and riot themselves The bots are horrible at teaching proper game mechanics, to the point they actually teach poor tactics and habits. There are no protections against smurfs, which run rampart

Man I remembered first starting out and the way the community was towards me, made me feel like the biggest piece of shit, not even worth the air I'm breathing. Was like stepping into a pihrana tank labeled "Water park". Don't let the bastards grind you down. This community is pretty horrifically toxic, but there's a lot of people who make up for it.

When I started, I was told to get yi because I was told he was good. I loaded in and picked yi and just sat there. Luckily, someone noticed I was new and didn't have smite, so he said go bot, which I later found out was bottom. Even though he was trying to help, I was so dang confused because I always went bot from them on and just 2v1ed the bots, which I thought was unfair xD. I also really liked tiamat when I first got it (idk why) so I would build multiples. I didn't get unique passives and actives

Dude, anyone who could read, saw Smite when they came to this game tried to use it on champs, only to say "Wtf why isn't smite working?" The only thing you did wrong in that game, was leave and even that's nit much of a problem because you were new and being harassed.

You actually had a ban? Wth? Either way, trash people are going to be trash people, and they apparently won't get punished for it. I think that part of the tutorial should be how to mute people.

Okay, I hate to sound like a jerk, and while my method doesn't excuse being a jerk, people won't react like this if you learn the ropes with bots first.

They're free wins, but still good ways for new players to learn. This way you don't get insulted for doing something dumb, even though you didn't know.

Cure your ignorance so it cannot be used against you, I always say. People are harsh here, but you really should start with bots so you don't negatively impact other players a ton.

Valderis Vandala8/25/2015, 3:52:34 AM1 votes

It was your fault.

Going into a game where other people rely on you without any knowledge of even basic things (like not knowing how smite works) is just a dick move on your part. The other people you play with have no control over their situation, they are simply saddled up with you, and this a PC game so we can't tell if you are new to this or a little kid or just a troll or just someone who needs a helping hand, not that we can help you even if we wanted to, there is also no way to tell some ones mood or intentions from their voice since we have no voice.

If you don't know how the game works you play the tutorial and then go into AI matches, that is where you can learn the basics of the game. Don't expect people to not give a shit about what you do in PvP matches or hold your hand all game or explain stuff during the game. If you don't know anything then you are ruining it for other people.

And leaving a game is never acceptable.

Your behavior does not excuse their toxic behavior but I find it hard to sympathize with you when you kind of act like a dick and expect everyone to just be ok with it just because you don't know any better.

Just Blame Jenny8/25/2015, 4:08:38 AM1 votes

Er. The game has a hidden matchmaking rating for normals. In theory, completely new players should be matched against equally new players, so if they're still learning, that's no problem. So's the other team!

The issue is that this game has a lot of smurfs, which skews the equation considerably.

It's not fair to expect new players to stay away from normals just because lots of veterans are making alt accounts and playing in newbie-ranked normals, though. If you're going to flame them because they're still, gasp, learning, then you're a jerk.

I played 2 bot games and in both games was a Kalista player. He was obviously lv 1 or 2 because he didnt take flash and he bought no items. He/she went mid and leblanc said: "Report Kalista im mid" I dont get how stupid people are and how they not realize that new players may not know everything about the game.

The Whamboozler8/24/2015, 5:30:52 AM1 votes

Yeah, the new player experience in this game is horrid. Low leveled pvp is full of smurfs who are often toxic as hell, and if you avoid it by playing bots until level 30 you are HIDEOUSLY unprepared for what the game is actually like and will probably be brutally reamed and flamed at when you start pvp anyway since you don't know a lot of essential things about the game.

BeatRushVII8/24/2015, 2:39:35 PM1 votes

It's always been that way, as long as i've played anyway(riven patch). I was legitimately too intimidated to ask people anything in game..i really think its why my builds were so garbo for my first few months.

Like, 3 recurve bow and boots cait bad

LaceUp238/24/2015, 2:41:34 PM1 votes

Good, you deserve 24h ban for afking. Good job with your goal to get upvotes, though. Can always count on a "people are mean" thread to do it :)

Meteor Driz8/24/2015, 5:48:44 PM1 votes

People making fun of you for being a noob... wow I've never heard of this happening before on any game until now.

How people stop complaining and grow a pair

KimchiFryRiceGG8/24/2015, 5:57:41 PM1 votes

i would say play bots first, people there tend to be more helpful as they are usually more experienced players trying out new and weird builds or some other randomness. Generally though, PvP has alot of assholes and alot of cool people, you can either ignore them or troll back...if someone is flaming my entire team ill usually just follow him around the map for a bit while spamming taunt/laugh/dance until he gets annoyed and keeps his mouth shut. My best advice would be to mute the player who is flaming/trolling and just talk to the people who you need to on your team.
