How to equip event emotes?

So I bought the dawnbreaker emote from the "Yasuo VS. Riven" event. But I'm unable to activate/use it!

I tried:

Using mastery sign CTRL+6 on champion
Using the Dawnbreaker Icon
Playing Dawnbreaker Riven

From the Legendary VS. Event page FAQ;

Q: How do I equip an emote from the event? A: You have to own and equip the icon that the emote comes with (i.e., Daybreak Icon or Nightfall Icon). These emotes temporarily replace your Mastery emotes (using Ctrl + 6) and last until 07/11/17 23:59 PT.

Whatever icon you crafted to get the emote is the icon you have to wear to use the emote.

i bought the event emote but i do not have the skin... do i have to get the skin to use it?
