Lets put queues aside for a moment and discuss what we WANT rankings to represent
When you earn a rank or you look at someone else rank, what is it that we want that rank to represent, and in what proportion? As a whole, ranks determine a player's ability to win games when fighting against other players, but what goes into winning a game?
- mechanics
- item build knowledge
- game sense
- coordination
- decision making
- understanding the current meta
- etc.
Clearly we do not want the outcome of a game to be determined entirely by any one thing. A player with godly mechanics should not be able to 1v5 all day and win games if they build bad items, constantly make poor decisions, never work with their team, pick weak champions into hard counter enemy lanes and comps, etc. You should need to have some mix of various talents, skillsets, and knowledge to win games and go up in rank.
So the question then becomes: which things do we most want to determine the outcomes of games, and thus ranking? To what degree should each thing count?
I know that personally I prefer when mechanics have a stronger impact on winning a game than meta champion picks, but how much more important? Enough to pick a low winrate champion into a high winrate hard counter and win easily because of superior mechanics? That's just one example thing to consider.
instead of arguing about solo/dynamic queue, we should first be discussing and understanding what we DO want out rankings to measure. It's at least more constructive than saying 'I don't want the rank that DQ/SQ measures' and shaking your fists at the other camp.
