Mercy Rule

Would this sort of auto-surrendering mechanic be useful? Some teams outright refuse to surrender a lost game for god knows what reasons, sometimes because they're stubborn, or because they want someone to be stuck in the game longer than need be. I understand ff15 was just implemented but that's simply not enough, it requires all 5 teammates to vote yes. If a game is 40-0 in favor of enemy with 11 towers taken you shouldn't be stuck in the game if they toy with you or your teammate is just being stubborn. Thoughts on the mercy rule?

I'm thinking it would automatically trigger at a point of no return to save players time, there would be no vote, it would just happen instantly, and loss wouldn't be forgiven, you take the loss and move on. If there is a AFK it would be forgiven, the win would still go to the enemy in the case of an AFK.

I love being forced to play a 56-minute game only to lose due to an AFK once we're in late game and get 96 IP for my valiant efforts.

How would mercy rule be implemented?

  • Does it relate to surrender votes?
  • Does it relate to "loss forgiven?"

I dunno...

In your extreme 40-0 -11 towers example, the game should end in seconds anyway. Surrender votes shouldn't be an issue there. I can't imagine that you'd get to that score AND have more than one teammate unwilling to surrender AND have an enemy team unwilling to finish you off.

League is a game where comebacks are actually quite possible, even considering the snowballing nature of the early game. A bad engage and a few missed skillshots can lead a team with even a seemingly insurmountable advantage into a terrible team fight. Acing the enemy team with 2/3 teammates alive after the 40-minute mark is often enough to get inhibs/dragon/baron, or at least push your lanes back out considerably and allow your own inhibs to respawn.

My point is, a "Mercy rule" would only be helpful in a situation where you're against _literally _ insurmountable odds, AND your teammates are too stubborn or trolly to surrender, AND the enemy team won't finish the game for whatever reason. That set of circumstance seems exceptionally rare to me.

using an extreme situation to make a point is a not a sound argument. if the match is really that one sided, the game would end quick by itself regardless.

in the average losing game, a comeback is much more likely to happen as the game drags on because of item slot limits. theres no need for mercy rule.
