Minion GTFO of my waaaaaaaay!!!

The issue I'm referring to is when your allied minions are in your way, causing you to slow down. They also force you to reroute in certain critical situations, such as turret attacks. I'm somewhat a newbie, so I had to learn the hard way that MY minions had the same affects on me as the enemy, in regards to getting slowed down/rerouted. (at least, it seems that way in most cases) However, the more I think about it, the stranger it seems that your ally minions would be such a hindrance to your escape. I understand that this might seem like nothing to more experienced players and that I should just deal with it, which I will if nothing is done. (If I seem a little defensive its because the threads in my old text-based mmorpg were complete crap when it came to individual ideas) If there is a good explanation for why this is the way it is, I'd appreciate anyone who can shed some light on it. I'll add a poll to determine how the PB feels. Thanks for reading guys, peace.

The lesson to learn is that the game's Auto-pathing (the code that decides HOW to get to your cursor) is intended to murder you. Autopathing around moving minion, allied or otherwise, is handled VERY poorly by the calculator. Basically, over time, you will learn to micromanage your champion's movement to avoid minions. But there will always be a time when at least one gets in your way at a critical juncture.

This very fact is what has lead me to say to my team: "I'm getting a Phantom Dancer for my Garen." I can tell you it wasn't for the attack speed!

I got trapped by my own allied minions down in botlane giving the enemy botlaners a free kill on me.. they completely surrounded me and I couldn't escape... (Flash was down..)

Ever sence then I have thought about taking ghost (For the move speed and non minion clash) but idk how my friends would react to this non meta spell.. but with minion complaints becoming more and more.. idk..

I have had my life saved by the minions slowing a jungler up or blocking my laner off as much as I have been cockblocked by them. I say keep them as they are because they are fair.

Also there are certain champs that get the ability to pass through units as part of their kit and I kinda like that.

It seems weird that your minions can block you but you can't really block them. I was playing with a friend who had only played DOTA2 before, and he was trying to block his minion wave as it was spawning (to pull his lane) and was surprised that the minions just speed up to make up for the blocking.

It's an intentional part of the game. Mobility from hecarim passive or Phantom dancer or ghost would lose value. Equally, any small dashes such as Riven's, lucien's, vayne's, etc... That can be used to pass through minions more easily would lose value. Escaping from a gank may mean going in a route that paths your enemy around minions that you can ignore.

A further point is manipulating the minion wave. If you ignore unit collision with minions, they'll ignore it with you. Experienced players (and some less experienced players such as myself) will step in the minion's way to manipulate the wave. mostly you slow down the second minion at the last moment so that the first minion takes all of the opposing minions focus instead of it being shared, making the wave push towards your turret. I'm sure there are other strategies, but fundamentally you're trying to take an advantage that would no longer be possible.

I'd recommend just paying attention to where minions are. You should be able to avoid getting stuck in them by positioning yourself better. When pushing a turret or trading in Lane, stand off to the side of the minion wave.

As a side note, this mostly applies to mid Lane: landing skillshots on the enemy when they wander in towards their caster minions to cs is a lot easier (due to unit collision preventing their ability to dodge). Similarly though, you could step there on purpose to draw a skillshot through the minion wave to make them push the wave if you know your jungler is looking to gank soon for example. There's actually a lot of strategy and counterplay around unit collision.
