Read this, seriously guys.
I entered a game of the new draft mode, selecting "bot" as my primary role and support as my secondary. I quickly found a game and found out that I was second pick, as the support role. The first pick being "bot", saying that he wanted to play top. Well it turns out I also wanted to play adc. My question is what's preventing the first pick from picking top and then me from picking adc if the first two picks didn't get the roles they want, but ARE the first two picks. Are we supposed to follow some type of etiquette while completely abandoning the style of the old ranked system of pick order?
I also have concern for players at the highest level. Let's say a challenger adc plays ranked in the new draft mode. They select "bot" as their primary role because they know that they will be able to achieve the highest ranks playing this role. Then selecting their second best role, something they might not be able to play at the challenger level. In the old system, a player could get their role about 80+ percent of the time, just by saying their preferred role in chat. This would allow them to reach challenger with relative ease to be noticed by professional teams, in which positions are specialized. Players in the LCS aren't playing two roles. They aren't like okay sneaky, you're either getting ADC, which you play professionally. Or jungle, which you do not. This handicaps players who would otherwise climb.
My suggestion for the ranked queue would be to make it pseudo-teambuilder. You select the role you want to play, and then enter a queue. You're matched with your team mates, each playing the other roles necessary to create a team. So everyone is getting to play the role they want to play while still being able to create a draft. The issue of deciding pick order would need to be dealt with, of course
I feel as if the entire system would be fine as is if you received your preferred role like 90% of the time, only forcing you onto your secondary when queue time becomes an issue. This would make most people happy. But lcs players will not be happy if they queue up and get their preferred role 50% of the time and someone else takes their role who's less experienced, thus causing the game to go a different way. Making climbing difficult. Yes, I know it's always better to be well rounded, but the current draft eliminates legitimate styles of play such as the one trick pony or anyone who specializes in a certain lane or role. If everyone could play the role they wanted to play, every time, that would increase the overall team synergy as everyone is comfortable with the role they're playing. Instead of forcing adc or jungle mains onto support and top while their roles are taken by those who didn't even want to play them.
I like the direction the new draft is headed in, however at the moment it feels sloppy and unfriendly to significant portions of players, most significantly to high level play and aspiring professional players. The ranked system and dynamic queues haven't even been introduced and there's already confusion. The system would be easier with friends, because if you have 4 people in a game you could just lock whatever you want and make the solo player lose or not get his role, simply because you have 4 and he's 1. I feel as if solo play is the most heavily impacted. The traditional one role main solo climb to challenger cannot be done and if you get matched with a group of 4 they can just 4v1 surrender the game, causing you to lose lp.
I just want to be able to play ranked solo and climb on the role I want to play, Riot, and I'm sure there are many more who share my view.
