How to improve my cs?

I've been playing league for about 5 months now and I've started to notice a trend in my play. Skip to the bottom for a tl:dr.

As I said I've played League for 5 months, and I've recently gotten into ranked play. I just started my provisional games to find out what rank I'll be. I main Ahri on mid. Here's the thing: It seems like Ahri is really dependent on her ability to cs in early game. Whenever I miss out on a huge amount of cs (whether it be because I'm dealing with a lane bully, I'm helping out another lane, or because I'm just generally bad at last-hitting) the entire situation snowballs out of control and I end up being useless in the early and mid game.

It's only at the end of the game that I end up being of any use, mostly because while my team was team fighting, I went and split pushed to farm on my own. My thing is, though, that I don't want to have to split push in order to hit the "spike" that I need, in order to be useful to my team. I would generally like to be there for my team during the mid game, because Ahri can help a lot in a team fight.

So I guess what I'm trying to ask is: What are some ways to practice/improve my ability to cs and not have to abandon my team during the mid game. If you'd like to be of extra help, here's a secondary question. What are some ways to switch between harassing the enemy laner and focusing on my cs. Is there anything Ahri-specific that I can try?

TL;DR: I end up not being able to cs early game, so I'm useless mid-game. I need to be there for my team. How can I get better at cs'ing?

Thank you for reading this!

go into a custom game / practice mode without any runes or masteries and just practice last hitting. Do it for 10 minutes and try to get as many as you can. Then do it again, and try to improve that score. Rinse and repeat. It's boring and tedious, but ultimately worth it.

Also note that CS is generally more important than kills. If you have 5 kills to the enemy's 2, but they're 50 CS up on you, they have the gold lead.

you need to come up with a procedure for every champion you play. Watch pros and you can see what they do and what is probably practical once you understand the cost of doing it. For example ahri may farm with charm when under tower but cant engage whenever she wants if she does this.

Learn

  1. How to farm under tower
  2. How to control the minion wave to change where the wave ends up and how spread out minion damage is.
  3. How to farm with particular items on

there's other stuff too, you can learn one without learning the others. You also need to learn when to go to base how to get to the item you want fast and how to get back to lane faster

you also need to learn when to give up on your cs and when to just eat damage and get the cs.

You also need to understand what champs need a specific starting build to get a good start with their cs and when they should get what by going to base.

The first step is aiming to achieve 100 cs in 20 minutes which is the standard for bronze players. That's not good, but you should work on that before you try to go further. Once getting 100 in 20 becomes something normal (As in, You could get 100 cs in 20 minutes without actually focusing on cs), then you should start working on farming more. How? Practice, duh. Work on your timing. Read minion patterns, Time your auto attacks and make sure you get the last hit on minions. Use the practice tool if you must. You can push your cs futher by learning to farm under tower. Farm is under their tower? Go clear raptors or something. Just never stop farming because it's your most valuable income in game :)

Once you start getting 160+ CS in 20 mins, you should be finding climbing out of bronze very easy. That's not easy of course. I Myself tend to get 120/130 cs in 20 minutes if i focus, but I won't stop practising and neither should you!
