Let me explain something to you players, moderators and Rioters about changing a game too much
Aatrox pick rate is up. Did those players come from NEW players, or just old players trying him out, which would mean pick rates of other champions go down a bit?
Tell me the value in that? You completely changed the game play of a champion to attract players that clearly already had other champions they liked to play, or else they wouldn't be playing the game already.
In doing this, you have once again signaled that there is little value in maining any unpopular champion, because you might decide to, instead of being creative to make their kit more fun and interesting, just do away with it altogether and make a new champion called an old name.
Riot and you people on the boards may not realize it, but it utterly disincentives playing this game for many years. Why put in the effort when newer champions are going to have wilder and more densely packed abilities, leaving the ones you liked out dated and on the chopping block?
And speaking of that, WHY does it feel like Riot designers are trying to outdo the past? The past is what MADE riot. The way champions were designed is why people loved the game. And people like familiar things...where do you get the idea that the majority of players want to see things change so drastically from season to season? Is that even based on anything? Or are you just assuming the old players will stay and fresh new stupid cool champions will attract new players?
This company was founded by amateur businessmen. Assuming they know what they are doing is wrong. They are guessing, and there is not enough data and history with MOBAS for them to predict the future, especially as gaming keeps developing---now Fortnite is all the rage...tomorrow, some other form of game.
So they are doing away with drain tanks, making items super strong, champions have so much mobility and CC now, damage is up...great, sooooo what about champion diversity? Every champion needs to conform to some overarching idea of how a champions should be?
The only reason old champions get outdated is because new champions, and reworked champions, are getting so much stuff loaded into their kits. They literally are trying to attract new players by making things flashy.
I will always be personally insulted that my time with Aatrox meant nothing in the end. Riot creates a game that people love and who's champions they LOVE...and then callously removes the champion for the benefit of....who? People who already DIDN'T play that champion? WTF. Or are they really thinking that people who don't play MOBAS are going to be like "hey that reworked champion looks awesome, I think I will try League"
In order for a game to survive it has to remain MOSTLY THE SAME. This idea that the game has to keep evolving forever, ensures that, instead of always having a core following of people who love it for what it is and wants it to stay what it is, will not be there when markets and fads change...instead Riot will always be trying to adjust and predict the market and consumer interest.
