PBE 5.11 Malphite changes
Can anyone explain the proposed change to malphites W and what its trying to accomplish? is it a buff or nerf?

Its a buff. You can now control when you will push your lane instead of passively pushing it by attacking. You also have a permanent armor buff. The loss of the AD buff is not noticable since he doesn't build too much AD. Malphite also gets physical damage from building AP now as well. Overall buff. You have much more control on your lane and the active now scales into late game.
having the 30% bonus armor constantly on his w instead of for a few seconds, seems like a lategame buff.
tbh the switch from cleave to active, and resitances to passive is kindof logical. he relies more on being a beefy armor tank than that little bit of cleave damage. and with the ap scaling, the cleave actually does some damage now.
well, unless you were playing ad malphite.
Basically, it's a free cinderhulk for armor on his passive ability. Malphite is now going to become EVEN stronger, because his E scales with armor, so you can go full tank (
too if you like) and still absolutely crap on people.
The best part about it, though, is that now AP Malphite synergizes even better with Nashor's tooth, since the W now scales with AP like everything else in his kit.
I'm excited.
This now gives 312 armor from 240. His base armor is increased to 125 due to the 30% increase. So he passively has 437 armor with a tank build at all times. He can then get some AP Pure DPS/AP Tank items to boost his damage. Malphite will be dealing some DAMAGE and taking the DAMAGE!

It's certainly a buff when active, and getting the %bonus armor on passive is really nice.
Losing the cleave on passive might slow his jungle down a bit though.
It is a nerf to AD Malph, buff to Tank/Full AP/AP Bruiser Malph.
it is a buff for lane malph and to a lesser extent jungle malph given that you ow have to turn your aoe on instead of always having it on but the buff to it increasing his armor is a buff for both of them equally id say
its a but to everything but ad malph i do no why they have it deal physical damage. if he was change to magic i think he would be very playable
he needs a buff on the cleave damage. He builds way too little AP to even see the damage. WE WANTZ DA DAMAGEZ RITO!
It looks like a nerf. He now gains a small percentage of armor as a passive on his W instead of AOE damage with passive, while the active used to give him a higher percentage of armor and also the same percentage of attack speed. So over all he has less percentage armor but its passive so always up rather than active, but lost a lot of attack speed on the active and also now the aoe splash is only active so his jungle speed is going to be hurting. Im guessing riot is just doing their usual "we want these champions played in this position or not played at all" which is why champs like

are hurting so bad because the one role they were able to do (jungle) was changed and the jungle item changes did not fit their kits very well
