Silver Bullet Supports are Negative

I've been seeing a lot of cool changes over time in the way supports are made and played. A lot of the newer supports are limited in overall impact and usually have some counterplay and limitations. Bard has a double edged ultimate, has a limitation on his q stun, and while he does a lot of damage he offers less support power overall. Tahm Kench while heralded as a problem support, really only offers a powerful disengage on one person with his abilities. Most supports don't offer a single overwhelming failure for specific comps. Sure Tahm might shut out Caitlyn ultimates, but he doesn't just shut down the entire team. After coming back and playing for a bit I've noticed there are two, potentially three, champions that seem to be outliers. These supports, in my opinion, seem to do far more than other champions against certain comps and this kind of all or nothing gameplay really makes it unfun and very negative to actually play against it.

Janna - I'll start off with an old and rarely seen champion. I don't think the argument that she sees little play is an excuse to leave her in a negative position. Janna offers a single silver bullet against engage comps. Far more than someone similar in potential, Gragas. Her ability to shield a carry, position an aoe knockup, and a knockup with a heal allows her to single-handedly shut down any melee based engages and her passive movespeed bonuses make catching people out of place even harder. She just feels too frontloaded and if you get stuck in a composition she beats it's not just an uphill struggle, it's almost a death sentence. Champions that provide that much power against certain archtypes leaves that old world feel that "I just auto lose here, doesn't matter what I do." and really I feel that is something this game has tried to remove over time.

Soraka - No surprise Soraka is here, she's been talked about ever since the Grievous Wounds changes, and the new masteries, Soraka has become a powerful force... one that I feel is too powerful. Poke comps have a problem with healing, but Soraka can shut down everything but an extremely heavy burst comp. Her ability to throw out healing is unparalleled and there's very little counter play. In a normal game environment most people won't have the coordination or power to setup strong split pushes that are usually the only way to deal with her. When you have a champion whose power just shuts out almost all gameplay to the point you can't play anymore, there is a serious issue with that champion. And since the items no longer allow any counterplay, the issue has only gotten worse from what I have seen.

Sona - Special mention, mainly because of her similarity with Soraka. She offers strong crowd control against engages and offers plenty of sustain against poke comps. She has been strangely absent recently with the new changes, but the potential for her to just be a brick wall on her own nabs her a spot here.

Again, these are just my personal feelings from playing, and I am by no means a top tier player, but I shouldn't have to be a top tier player in order to offer feedback, and the game shouldn't be catering solely to that crowd. These are real issues, that have the potential to affect a much larger portion of the playerbase. For me these three champions more than any others create a heavily negative play experience, because they promote a very slow and crippling counter to entire teams all on their own that just makes the game unfun and no longer League of Legends, but rather Farmville until you ultimately lose.

"Janna - I'll start off with an old and rarely seen champion."

I wouldn't say rarely seen...
