Problem with Solo Queue matchmaking?

 I just played a ranked silver 2 game with two unranked players and a bronze player on my team. The other team had two gold players and three silver 2 players. How is this possible? Shouldn't there be enough people at all of these ranks to make more equal games?  

 This makes me not want to play ranked. My mid laner had 30 cs at 20 minutes and went 0/10 but it's not even their fault because they were unranked playing against a gold player in a silver game.
