Two ideas to the benefit of Sylas I came up with while playing Vladimir.
I was thoroughly disappointed by Sylas like many. As I played Vladimir I noticed the champions are very similar in a couple ways. Both are capable of significant aoe bursts of damage in one way and also able to put out a respectable amount of single target damage. The single target damage for both also happens to offer them healing and in extended team fights it's important for both these champions to do as they must to survive about 6 seconds to make it to each heal.
I find these similarities to be significant as a factor Vladimir enjoys is lost on Sylas. Vladimir scales with HP in his passive, E, and Q. He gets HP from AP and AP from HP if I remember correctly from his passive. His E scales its aoe/projectile damage with both AP and HP. His Q is indirectly scaling with HP since it heals based on Vladimir's % missing health, meaning more HP still grants a larger amount resorted though AP is what scales with the ratios in his Q. Sylas has arguably even more reason to become tankier then Vladimir does yet Vladimir is a champion that benefits more then Sylas from a tanky stat. This factor of course assists Vladimir in his goal to survive those seconds between empowered Qs without him having to make huge sacrifices to his damage output.
I am not trying to say Sylas should be another replica of vladimir, however giving him significat hp scalings would be a good way to blend his need to be tanky and desire to do damage particularly given the number of existing items high in HP and AP. A difference between Vladimir's HP scaling's and Sylas's propositional HP scaling is Sylas's scaling with HP should be more oriented towards defense offering no additional offensive value like Vladimir has for his E and Passive. Then Sylas's AP scaling's would represent only the offensive capabilities as well. This would put emphasis on ones decision to weigh options of offense and defense on Sylas rather then Vladimir who weighs the options of more aoe damage or more single target damage.
To be specific... The shield portion of Sylas's E would scale with % HP better then the current amount provided by its AP scaling. This happens to prevent a frustration known by some of champions getting tankier the more damage they do, in this case the champions tankiness multiplies with itself as in Sylas would get more tanky the more tanky he built/he gets more value then others from buying HP just as Vladimir and also Darius do.
His second defensive scaling is on his W that heals him more when he is low on HP while damaging targets, more so if they are low on HP. Replace the AP scaling for the heal portion with an HP scaling and keep the damage portions AP scaling, then buff these ratios. This also puts the W in a unique spot I don't think is shared by any other champion(though I'm not the most experienced by any means). Doing this would imply that building full AP will result in a W that does a ton of damage but doesn't heal for very much only being the base amount, Sylas could also build only HP and get a massive heal but do very little damage lacking AP to scale off of. However I assume what will be likely is players will have a mix of HP an AP to benefit from both portions somewhere in between these two extremes.
My other idea was to take the fore mentioned shield off his E dash and place it somewhere else on his kit. The shield makes sense on Sylas's E when he dashes towards someone, however its wasted if you use the dash to dodge something like a Brand Q that's worth dodging despite the shield. Placing the shield on the second portion of his E being the hook/dash makes much more sense as its a tool that can only be effective by going onto an enemy. In a 1v1 situation it wont be that great depending on the shield duration since they are being hard cc'd anyway but if one is using the second part of E to leap onto the target amidst a team of enemies then the shield will be nice to have. This again, of course, allows the dash portion to be used for dodging without wasting the shield and makes heading into the middle of an enemy team safer by being on the second part that's only effective for going in.
This post contains two different suggestions so I am leaving a poll to more accurately represent any support that maybe given. That being support for just the HP scaling's as suggested, the changing the placement of the shield on his kit as suggested, or agreement with the whole thing as in both. Regardless if you agree or not, thankyou for reading this far and I thusly wish you a lovely night with many lp for days to come.
