What Champs do you recommend for branching out in roles?

So as I approach my level 30 and thinking about my champ pool, it seems that I am in need of more champion diversity than what I'm used to. So my question is pretty simple, for a player prepping for ranked after runes are built, what Champs do you recommend they learn and master? And for what roles should I be playing them?

[slayer-pantheon-thumbs] Thanks for your responses in the future!

When I was new I made it a goal to try a minimum of 3 free rotation champs every week. Those I liked i bought and practiced.

Okay, first off let me stop you now before you make the same mistake i did. I'ma tell you a little story about my year and a half of playing league.

I was in your shoes asking your questions, i've played every champion and own every single one with the exception of Karma because Karma ;) anyways. I played hard, "trained" hard trying to climb. I was stuck in silver for my first season, and most of this season. I worked hard counter picking and being flexible to better my chances of success. Towards the end of the season I decided to hardcore main Rengar. Didn't matter if he fit the team comp or not, or if i picked into a direct counter. I became so experienced on this champion he became my "comfort pick" and for good reason, i climbed from Gold 5 to Gold 1 on my main in about 2 weeks, and i went from silver 3, to gold 2 on my smurf in a similar time span.

TL;DR Dont expand your champion pool in hopes of gaining elo, rather expand your champion understanding/depth, and master 1-3 of your favorite champions.

I recommend playing all the champs at least a little bit to understand them when you play with/against them. I spend the first year or so of league just playing all the champs and it has helped me a lot in games.

I recommend try anything. First try it in a Custom Match against bots to learn abilities, get a feel while cs-ing/jungling, etc. Then Custom against a friend or relative, then go 3v3, then finally 5v5. Unless you are really good at learning, go Custom, 3v3 vs Players and/or 5v5 against players.

OR, play ARAM for a bit. Next day, then play 5v5 Normal.

I know utility mages are easy to pick up for me, but Jg assassins typically give me issues. And Marksmen really throw me off if they feel slightly different in the way i cs.

I recommend easy to learn low skill cap champs if you are learning a new role. Even some of the OP champs, like Graves, is a great way to feel safer while learning a new role (assuming the role is ADC, or maybe even Marksmen in Top lane for example).

As a jungle main i recommend Vi, she's pretty simple, has been very strong since she came out, and has carry potential if you're good enough, shes also better then the two main easy junglers (Warwick and Nunu).

Midlane i recommend Annie and Lux, both very strong and easy.

ADC With the new changes Caitlyn is going to be very good, and she has a easy-ish kit. Sivir as well is not too difficult to play and is strong.

Support, Leona, Braum, Annie, are all really strong/fairly easy supports.

Top, I don't know a lot about top but i do know that Irelia carries outstandingly hard, and wins lane very easily

Kayle Jungler made it and went from s4 to g5 in 2 week before season ends i had full win streak s3s2 totally no loses but i was struggling at s1 went from 100lp to 0 lp then back to streak win to gold V = ) was fun i can do all day, tho i had no time to claim for higher division so i stop alreadyKayle

(edite: i had my lvl 30 before season ends in 3 week also = ) ! )

its really powerful champion that no one knows my totally kill /death when i hit g5 1100~ kill 500~ death

Jungle: Warwick or Master Yi ADC: Ashe, Sivir, Miss Fortune, Jinx, or Caitlyn Support: Sona or whatever champion you feel comfortable with. You could easily start out with someone like Annie, Karma, or Lux as long as you feel you're decent enough with them. Mid: Annie, pretty much anyone with good range. Don't try to start mid with someone like Talon or Yasuo, try to get a better feel for mid first. Top: Garen is the easiest IMO since he can withstand so many pokes and still be alright.

For me, it's really hard to play the other roles. I'm so good at support and so much worse at everything else it really makes me feel like I'm going to lose so much of the time whenever I try anything else. Maybe if you don't let yourself get way too much better at one role than the others than you won't have this problem though.

Is it hard to stop playing your favorite mains to learn other ones in your opinion?

Not at all. There are too many cool champions, I find it's harder to play just one lol. But at least if you did that, you would learn all the champions' strengths real quick.

As for what champions you should play, watch this. He'll say a good portion of what I was going to, so I'm going to save myself some typing. What Champion or Role Should You Main? - League of Legends.

...Done? Okay, now what you should do is try some new champions. Pick the ones you like and there you go! If we're talking solely in terms of "preparing for ranked", look at the champions you are playing and try to pick out a couple for each role. "For each role", because you are not always going to play the same one; someone else might need to take it or your team might be better off if you pick a certain other one instead. "A couple for each" to have options because your first choice might get banned out, chosen by the enemy team, or to be able to avoid a match-up you find you are bad against.

So some advice is to go ahead and take your time; find some new great champs, buy some rune pages, and have fun. You don't have to rush into ranked at level 30 so don't worry about it because... uh... because if you judge by the ranked threads here, if you take a look around ...you won't exactly be missing out on much.
