ivern? biggggg discussion
right. so ivern's out, and not gonna lie i love the direction they went with this character. the passive jungling effect is super super cool and creating bushes is a nice direction for a support/jungle character. but what the fuck is his kit? its like they gave him all these tools to be a support and then forced him into jungling? and then realising their mistake they gave him an ult that though effective feels out of place with everything else he does. he doesnt fit in? his base damage and health is too shit for him to really play as a jungler and now all he does is fill in a role other characters already fill. the shield? yeh its good and has great damage potential and helps with his survivability but its been done? if hes a jungler give him a more offensive tool instead of a support ability. and if hes support dont make him so good at jungling. and then there's his ult, which as i mentioned doesnt fit in. but worse, its so generic. its been less than a month since they released a yorick rework with an ult that does basically the same thing. its everything we've seen before, summon a giant minion, the only twist being a three hit knock up, not that that redeems it since we've seen it everywhere else (tahm kench passive, mordekaiser etc). in my head this champion would be a bot lane support that would be able to support a jungler. like lets say any member of his team can redeem his groves which would make him so much more effective. instead we are left with a champion to weak to jungle effectively in the late game and one too simple to really sway a team fight, unless he uses an ult which even then, by late game will be smashed especially if your on the backfoot. why pick Ivern to jungle when by the time youre team is looking at baron and drake youre gonna be unable to do anything but add some support by building bushes. a jungler by late game should be able to solo a drake QUICKLY, he should be able to do good burst damage and should be able to threaten any split pushing enemies. ivern it seems is almost built to change roles halfway through the game, being a good early game jungler and then changing into a less than good bot lane support. he needs to be edited quickly, or if not at least have his base stats buffed so his ganking isnt complete shite. its strange because playing him can still work at this point, but you need to be quick and you need to get the advantage off the go. if this was the goal riot was aiming at with him then they reached it but in my eyes we as a community needed a counter-jungle support with ivern. a character capable of not just helping bot lane but also buffing the junglers efforts and making things harder for the enemy jungler. like maybe a mark he can place on any monster to make it take more damage from allies and less from enemies, or a global ult that for 5 or so seconds puts vision on all jungles across the map and maybe even freezes any enemies inside for a brief second. this would make him an amazing support! he could lay down hus bushes in teamfights and create areas enemies would have to avoid for fear of his ult. or it could be used in chases to freeeze running opponents. now im not saying im the man with the ideas here but i just feel his kit at the moment is too divided, he needs to settle and not feel so messy. to give credit where its due however, what riot did do well was create a completely new and vibrant addition to the roster, one though i feel has little to no place in any game with actual late game tension. of course the community can experiment with item builds and maybe he'll find a palce but till then i just feel ivern has done so many things right but done the rest of it as a boring knock off of other abilities and spreads himself over too many roles other champs perform better in. please discuss! ive written a lot but i wanna hear everything, especially what you wanted ivern to be or how you would of preferred his kit. my ideas were only my ideas, im absolutely positive they werent the best, i know that had riot continued with their out of the box approach they could of made ivern truly special, now he just feels hard to balance and out of place.
