Spellshields and empowered Maokai E

So I was playing Sivir and I noticed something. Using her E on a Maokai Sapling didn't stop the slow nor the DoT.

I figure that was caused when they changed spellshields to only affect the first spell, not first spell and any else that happen in that exact moment and I'm guessing that Maokai E reads as two spells: one with the blast, then another with the application of the debuffs. But will it remain that way?
