A Litany of Suggestions
A lot of my complaints are about low-level gameplay (and they're aggregated from a few of my friends making complaints as well.) But I'll get to those in a minute. My first couple of suggestions are about ARAMs and custom games.
WARNING: This section is very long! Here's a TL;DR of the suggestions I make.
- Champion Mastery and Hextech Crafting for ARAMs.
- Let us choose where bots go in customs.
- Lower the unlock level for ARAMs and public champion rotation.
- Combine URF and One For All into a new mode? Pretty please?
- Ultra Rapid Fire minimum time for surrender lowered.
- Please do continue on to read my reasoning behind these suggestions!
- Firstly, I don't find it fair that ARAMs are excluded from Champion Mastery and Hextech Crafting. I can understand excluding game modes like Ultra Rapid Fire, Hexakill, Legend of the Poro King, One for All, Ascension, et cetera. But ARAMs have been around a long time! They're one of the mainstream game modes that people like me play, because a lot of times we don't have the patience for Normal or Ranked games, and don't want to deal with people getting oh-so-salty on Rift. I would like to be able to earn Champion Mastery and Hextech Chests/Key Fragments on Abyss in matchmade ARAMs. If the reason for excluding ARAMs is because of not wanting to skew the statistics, perhaps implement tracking ARAMs and normals separately, on Champion Mastery?
- Second, custom games with AI players (read: bots). This is a long standing problem that I've observed. When playing a custom game (for example, for the purpose of learning a new champion) I've observed that I'll see matchups like... Caitlyn top. Darius bottom. Maokai mid. Annie top. Lux top. Malzahar top. Ryze bottom. I propose we be able to choose where the bots go. That would make simulations using custom games so much more useful that it's not even funny. Want to learn a new champion? Go to custom, put yourself against someone that counters you. Easy! (That's a joke.)
- Now, for my low-level gameplay complaints (note that I rolled them all together into one long point). I feel that ARAM should be available at an earlier level (maybe 3?) as well as the champion rotation changing onto the public free champion rotation (rather than the starter rotation) at that same level. The reason behind this is lower level players, a lot of times, will "autolock" their choices in blind pick - that is to say, they choose their champion and lock in as quickly as possible. When you have 3 people playing ADC or that all wanted Ashe, and two playing tank that all wanted Garen, you usually end up with a really unpleasant 35 or 40 minutes. ARAMs eliminate that "autolock" issue, and they have quicker leveling - oftentimes resulting in a miserable game ending more quickly, and making it easier to explore new champions' abilities. I feel that this would facilitate more fun games for lower level players, and a few of my friends agree. I understand that "autolocking" is a problem with the community, rather than the software. But a couple of tweaks to the software could be quite helpful!
- I have to make a recommendation on the rotating gamemode queue. Now, everyone enjoys Ultra Rapid Fire (URF) and a good deal of people enjoy One for All as well. Both of those modes facilitate some gameplay that's just downright goofy, especially among friends. But what if we combined them? What if the Awesomely Awesome Buff of Awesomely Awesome Buffing was added to One for All, to produce... One for URF? Something like that. I'm not good at names, but I think that would be insanely fun! Just think, to have five Lux (Luces?) all throwing ultimates out every 12 seconds! It would be insane.
- My last recommendation: I've noticed that the Ultra Rapid Fire games are a LOT shorter than your standard League of Legends Summoner's Rift games. I was level 18 in 15 minutes, and level 30 within 25 minutes. A lot of times, the game outcome will be unmistakably decided by 15 minutes. I understand that surrenders is bad, but I suggest maybe lowering the minimum time before surrendering in Ultra Rapid Fire to 15 minutes instead of 20. I understand as well that this isn't a big difference to some people, but it's huge to others. In the balance of the game, 5 minutes can mean a lot. It can also mean a lot in whether or not you have aggravated players in your party because the one random player that someone invited was having internet trouble and spent the game at base. A lot of people watch the game in black and white (It looks so good that way!) because of the one player who can't keep connected for whatever reason.
Lastly, I apologise if this is in the wrong section of the boards. Riot, you guys could do with a "Game Suggestions" or "Game Feedback" section on the boards - I don't want to put this in as a bug, because... well, it's not. I wasn't able to include a poll - PLAYERS, please comment and let me know how you feel on this topic!
