Why do people care about rank past gold?

I understand, people wanting to get gold, for exclusive skin at the end of the season, but why bother playing it any further? If you want to fuck around and have fun play normals and other game modes. If you want to tryhard and improve, play ranked 5 vs 5 in a team. And finnaly if you want to waste time and torture yourself there is Solo Q, where rating past gold has no meaning, and people get upset by factors outside of their control.

Prob why you aren't a gold.

Well you need an extremely positive mentality to actually enjoy the climbing process. Only problem if you play too many normals is, that at one point you are just too good and expect too much, so normals become boring too and then you go back to ranked because there you can improve and also get matched with better players. Riot constantly releasing reworks and new champions makes it a lot easier to just keep trying stuff in normals though.

To fuel thier easily shattered egos or chase a fool's dream of going pro in league.

I think map rotations and just general teamwork inproves once you rise rank. And that can be really nice to experience. Personally, I like my Gold 5, 0 lp I've been ending years on.

I honestly don't know, solo q is a waste of time. It doesn't accurately judge skill until about really high plat where everyone on the team is capable of correcting mistakes. The game can be too heavily influenced by feeders, effectively shrouding players true skill.
