Why is the Jungle role so important this season

Seems like every game the jungle difference is absolutely insane. Thinking I missed something but did a patch make it to where this has happened? Every game it feels like the difference in skill in that role is game winning. Very frustrating, just looking for clarification because who ever wants to play League this way needs to be fired.
