Healer issues

Soraka:

  • Had big heal with average CD and mana cost, was able to give mana to herself
  • Nerfed her Infuse, wasn't able to give mana to herself
  • Nerfed base heal and butchered CD, added burst armor buff when used "so it required more decision making and timing" "sustained healing is toxic"
  • Remade into low CD spammable heal with little armor buff. Reduced mana cost, added HP cost. Suddently "sustianed healing is toxic" doesn't apply anymore
  • Now being remade into_ "hit Q to heal stuff effectively"_

Sona -Auras butchered multiple times, they were pretty impactful, had pretty decent range and GAVE ASSISTS -Now they have laughable range, low impact. Heck, Lich Bane is her core item now, so she's more bursty mage than aura support. -Her healing used to be powerful, now nerfed to half heal/half shield

Taric -Healing and/or mana regen butchered multiple times, same reasons as above. At some point, his main heal had 1.1 ratio and was nerfed to 0.6 and then to current 0.3 -Had healing toggleable aura as R -His passive regenerated alot mana -is now more bruiser with heal than tanky sustain support, as confirmed by sightings in top lane.

So you can see similar patterns in these champions: Sustained healing nerfed to oblivion, being remade into something more reactive (absorb/armor buff) Passive auras nerfed to oblivion, both on champions and items (invisible power hurr durr) Sustain nerfed on specific champions, while being freely given to others (via support items - coin and brace) Also, these champions are either over-bearing or utterly useless.

Now, the problem with healers is they are just too easy. I mean, requirements on decision making on these champions is very low. If ally has less than full health - use heal. Boom. That's it. Heal is targeted, or even worse- auto targeted, so even monkey could use it. Rest of their kits is also very simple Taric has point-and-click stun, Soraka has point-and-click silence, only sona has something that actually requires input- her R.

So let's take Soraka for example. I'll try to show biggest flaws in her kit and then suggest changes

Passive - Salvation. Basically approves terrible positioning by giving huge movement speed towards dying allies. Makes her much simpler to play while adding 0 complexity. Also it's far less useful for experienced player.

Q - Starcall Q is just dumb, no matter how they want to make it a thing. Soraka doesn't really need it in lane, as Coin/Medalion/pots heal her much more reliably and without need to expose herself. And believe me, the last thing she wants to do when low is to try hit Q because of its range. Imagine Soraka with half hp on front line, enemy support can just flash->stun and let ADC finish poor Soraka. Her old Q was much better but it was heavily abused in solo lanes so...

W- Astral Infusion It just shouldn't be spammable. I think it should be like Fiddle's channel. As long she channels she's giving her health to ally while draining mana. Give it high CD, let her to cast it while moving. It adds counterplay, as CCing her breaks healing tether and with high CD she's unable to heal for a while. Possibly increase healing gained when channeling for a long time? Multiple ways to buff/nerf it this way if it ends up unbalanced.

E - Equinox Basically only healthy ability in her kit. Funnily enough, it's not related to her main theme - healing

R- Wish R is instant global "FK YOU" to enemy team. It's extremely penalized for being instant and global. Keeping the global thingy is good, but what about making it targeted AOE, large as Fiora's R? Something like: Summon star at target location which bursts to life after 3 seconds healing by huge amount. Star lasts for 5 more seconds healing for little amount. Again, added counter play, they can add brutally high healing because its delayed. It currently sits at 350 healing at rank 3, which is ridiculously low. With this change even 1k base heal should be pretty fine.

By the way, what about hybrid damage/healing spells? Especially skill shots, like pre-nerf Essence Flux was. Sure, it was pretty weird on Ezreal, but heck, it might work on some champions. Also adds fine decision making, do i want to damage/CC enemy or heal/buff ally?

Notice this: Nami and Janna have healing abilities too, but they never were problem. Why? Because its tied to something else. Nami's heal can have much higher impact when used correctly, increasing her complexity which is a good thing. Janna's heal is tied to her very powerful R, so she has to make decision if she wants to heal her team or use it as zone/knockback tool.
