Was that an intention or an observation by riot?

So I just remembered something about riot's failed attempt to create subclasses of champions, which lead to the class reworks.

What was up with being classified as a "battle mage"? Like clearly he's not at all. He's a mid ranged mage (before and after the rework) like or , but for some reason he was classified as if he was at all comparable to or ...

I was under the impression that those labels were intended to describe the champions, not prescribe riot's intent with them.
