This is a concept post, so rough ideas for new ability power items to give ideas for more itemization, mainly for more diverse builds, but here will introduce some mechanics on the items that can potentially open up a new realm of unexplored champion diversity; at the very least will open up different item builds which is never a bad thing having more freedom to build how one would like to build and get creative with their builds.

Sapphire Gem: Recipe: Sapphire Crystal (400g) + 200g = 600g

Statistics: +250 Mana +UNIQUE Passive: 10% Cooldown Reduction

Crystallized Mana Scepter: Recipe: Sapphire Gem (600g) + Negatron Cloak (800g) + Fiendish Codex (820g) + 480g = 2700g

Statistics: +60 Ability Power +50 Magic Resist +400 Mana +20% Cooldown Reduction +UNIQUE Passive: Dealing magic damage to enemies crystallizes them with Mana for up to 3 seconds, your next basic attack against these enemies consumes the crystallized Mana to restore 1% of your maximum Mana (5% against champions).

This one is for a new magic resist item for mages to let in the new Abyssal Scepter; also an alternative mana sustain item as well.

Tome of Earthen Magic: Recipe: Fiendish Codex (820g) + Forbidden Idol (600g) + Blasting Wand (850g) + 430g = 2700g

Statistics: +80 Ability Power +20% Cooldown Reduction +Passive: Gain +100% to +200% base Mana Regen based on your missing Mana. +UNIQUE Passive: Dealing magic damage against enemies unleashes a tremor of earth magic 600 units around the struck enemies to deal 30% of the magic damage to nearby enemies (damage cannot overlap).

Think hydra for mages, only useful for those with a lack of AoE; and procs off magic damage for no AP Ezreal terror.

Zaun's Time Staff: Recipe: Needlessly Large Rod (1250g) + Fiendish Codex (820g) + 930g = 3000g

Statistics: +100 Ability Power +10% Cooldown Reduction +UNIQUE Passive: Convert all physical damage into magic damage at 80% damage. All magic damage deals true damage to minions. +UNIQUE Passive - Time Mark: Dealing magic damage places a time mark on the closest struck enemy to you for up to 3 seconds which allows Time Leap to be used. +UNIQUE Active - Time Leap: Instantly teleport 400 units directly away from the Time Mark target (90 seconds cooldown).

All I got to say is... Malzahar... also only what was originally physical damage deals 20% less damage when turned into magic damage, and minions have no magic resist or they have negative magic resist (you would deal increased magic damage in this scenario). Everything else is for explorers to decide!
