When does Lane Phase end?

In a game last night I was playing support. The ADC and I were doing very well, got first blood and took first tower. Granted it happened fairly quick, we got first tower at 9 minutes in. It was at that point, because we had a good wave, but not big enough to make it to the second tower, that I roamed to mid lane to help take that tower. My ADC kept pushing lane and got killed by the other duo. He tilts and goes off on me for leaving him during lane phase. I was always under the impression that if you get one tower and have your wave pushed, you should go help take towers in other lanes, or go for other objectives. Am I wrong, does lane phase last until a set time or when you reach a certain level? When does support start to roam?

TL:DR When does lane phase end and mid game/roaming/team fighting begin?

Regardless, your ADC shouldn't have pushed forward alone. It's not your fault for roaming. I usually roam even before the first tower is down. It's on him to realize he's 1v2 atm and he should play safer or just back off.

I generally switch lanes after towers are down.

Laning phase ends when each lane decides it ends. If you have a heavy team of roams on the bottom half of the map, and a Nasus top, chances are laning phase will go into 20mins+ for top lane, even if it has ended for mid and bot.

Look at your champions on your team. If you have late game carries, your goal is to make sure laning phase DOESN'T end until you're where you feel comfortable. You have a bunch of early game champions, you want laning phase over ASAP.

Laning phase lasts for a different amount each game, each lane, and each champions taking that lane.

The - when does laning end - question has been discussed.

Now, besides that, there are two problems. 1. ADC made the decision to go 1v2, so he shouldn't complain AFTER he's been killed. 2. Communication problem - He should have asked you what's up and then you'd tell him what the objective and plan are. Better yet, you should have told him your intentions before leaving so that if he had another idea, like perhaps he felt you could take tier 2 tower easy and quick, you could discuss it and reach an agreement.

Sometimes we may feel a teammate should know certain things, but unless we are sure he knows we should communicate and agree on the plan.

It depends a lot on team compositions. If you have a midlaner with tons of waveclear, you can keep pushing bot lane as long as you ward appropriately and have a decent idea of where the enemy jungler might be. If your mid laner does not have good waveclear, you will probably want to push the bot lane wave enough to force the enemy to deal with it when they get back and then rotate to mid.

If your top laner is close to killing his turret but can't get close enough, you might even want to head up there to help him harass his lane opponent and make the final blow to the turret.

Personally, laning phase ends for a player if they take their tier 1 tower. So mid lane, if I'm something like Zed v Lux, once I take her tower, my laning phase is over and I'm liable, and expected, to be constantly on the roam, returning only to protect my tower. And, vice versa. I stop calling MIA and pinging once my tower goes down because to me, it's implied they're constantly on the roam. Obviously I'll ping if I see them roaming, but I won't fervently watch for their absence.

To me, it also works in a half/whole manner. If Lux takes my tower, her laning phase is fully over. Mine is only half over. And vice versa.

In the past you would lack farm if your team tried to group up too early, but in this meta you just go steamroll another lane as soon as your tower goes down to push your lead into an easy victory.

Hello, I see you have a very interesting question! I will do my best to explain a few things so that we have an idea of when the "Lane Phase" of a game ends

The laning phase is what happens at the start of each game, every player starts the game with the same gold and goes to lane to farm minions and try to get an inherent lead over the opponent.

So when does that end? well logically it ends when one team is powerful enough over the other to secure objectives and open the map, the map is "opened" more and more with each tower taken vice versa the map is "Locked" when each player excluding the Junglers are forced to go to lane to defend their tower. Players who have ended laning phase can temporarily lock an opponent in lane by way of pushing waves and putting pressure on their second tier tower.

The mid-game usually starts around the 15 - 20 minute mark and the late game is considered to be 40+ minutes, when each team is at full items and such there usually isn't such thing as a "roaming phase" - roaming is when a lane leaves to go assist another lane

  • ** Tl;DR Laning phase ends when any tower on the map is taken, because that lane is no longer locked, creating extra pressure on different objectives on the map, forcing either team to respond**

  • As a side note - This is why junglers are so essential, they have the power to give inherent advantages to the lanes - almost 1 in 3 challenger players from any given region will be a jungle main.

If he was forced to go bot because the lane was locked then you probably should not have roamed however if the wave was pushing past the first tier tower the roam was probably okay. As a support you can roam almost whenever your lane is not being immediately pressured, providing you are a champion that can roam well and that you have mobility boots as the extra move speed is essential for roaming early on in the game so your lane buddy doesn't get screwed by it. Lane phase is over when the first turret drop or a lane is no longer able to defend their turret effectively. This frees people up to rotate to another lane which facilitates grouping.

If you lane past that point you are either putting yourself in unnecessary danger or not taking advantage of the potential for mismatches in other lanes you created.

This is not your fault usually, I roam to help my team get enemy towers. If support left and ADC is left alone, then he should either play passive or safe as he is in a one v two situation.

IMO it's when the first tower goes down. The game kinda becomes free farm fest.

Generally, laning phase ends when the first tower falls.

At that point, you should be roaming mid and top-lane to take towers/objectives and occasionally going bottom lane to protect the tower and/or clear the wave.

Sadly, some ADCs don't seem to realize they shouldn't be overextending to push the lane and should be moving to take other objectives with their team.

I've seen many ADCs decide to solo split-push bottom lane in the mid-game against fed assassins (i.e. Kha'zix, Rengar) even when:

  • The lane is already pushed out
  • There is a Zz'rot Portal in the lane pushing it

They just die for their stupidity.

It normally starts after 1st turret goes down I think
