Alternative upgrade to Oblivion Orb

I find it frustrating how Oblivion Orb is a great offensive item, but it upgrades into an utility item with no other options. By comparison, Last Whisper has two options you can opt into, depending if you want GW or not.

I want to see an item like:

Abyssal Scriptures 100 AP 300 Health Unique Passive - Touch of Death: +20 Magic Pen Unique Passive - Haunted: Damaging an enemy with abilities causes them to take an additional 10-80 damage(based on level) over 3 seconds.

Builds from Oblivion Orb + Needlessly Large rod.
