Broken Ranked Queue System

I am currently Silver 1 on this account, it is my second account that I have made but my other account is only Silver 4. My question for Riot is why am I playing against Platinum players when I play ranked? Given my normal game MMR is around the Platinum area this should not be the same for ranked queues. If your matchmaking system is really based on a skill rating rather than rank placement it makes it next to impossible to go up in rank. I understand that this requires you as a player to get better and play the game more but if you are a certain rank then you should be playing players of the same rank that way if you are more skilled than your current rank suggests you can move up to the rank of your skill level. That makes much more sense to me than being a lower rank than some of the players that share your skill level and still being put up against them so that you must progress even further as a player to attain a rank that is beneath you. I.E. you are a student in a class and are more intelligent than your peers however your instructor knows that the work is easier for you so he or she makes you get a higher percentage on your work to attain the same grade as the less intelligent members of your class. Let me know if I'm wrong about how this works as I am curious to the inner workings of matchmaking. Keep in mind I am not talking about my team being "bad" and feeding or anything, purely the imbalance of the ranks of ALL players in a game regardless of team. I also understand that perfectly balancing teams would make matchmaking a little bit longer and probably be not as ideal for higher levels of play where players are more scarce but I feel that in Gold and below there is enough player base to fine tune things a bit more.
