A thought for botlane

I have been reading how all of these players are getting so, so angry at the botlane meta shift, how people think diversity is either bad or still non-existant.

You are outright wrong. We needed a meta shift. The game has spent 7+ years with the ADC/support bot meta. It was getting completely stale, and instead of trying to learn new characters or improving on the ones you already use (because YES, you can counter a double mage botlane if you play correctly. Your playstyle needs a shift, but it can happen), you complain and whine to Riot about how they ruined the lane and the game. No, you are just a petulant brat.

I didn't see you complain when assassins became a common sight mid. This threw midlaners through a hoop, but they adapted. Assassins are the most toxic class in the League. Having the point of a class be "Make one person not able to play the game and assassinate them immediately in a teamfight" is not balanced at all. It is annoying and frustrating seeing a 55 second grey screen when you didn't do anything on the teamfight other than die. BUT, they dealt with it and adapted.

I didn't see you complaining when the tank meta came and then left. I'm sure tank mains felt the same as you did, because many tanks are now next to useless for tanking and are more used for CC and maybe a meat shield. No, they dealt with it and adapted.

I didn't see you complaining when the support roster got flipped on its head with the support nerfs to mana costs and support item nerfs. It hurt the healers and the enchanters a lot compared to what it used to be, but guess what? THEY DEALT WITH IT AND ADAPTED.

So deal with it. You can either try to improve, or get mad at Riot because they are trying to create variation in their 10 year old game. If you want to quit over it, so be it. Not our problem, and Riot has many other laners that will be happy to fill your spot ;)

Posting in a condescending manner doesn't strengthen your post's point.

Nobody who actually cares about bot lane has every complained about diversity in bot lane. Personally, I enjoy not having to play an ADC every game. At the same time, a majority of the picks that are common make the game unplayable for ADCs, especially in the snowball meta we're currently in. I'll go through them one by one.

Brand: His W range, size, and empowered bonus damage makes him incredibly oppressive in lane, and a force to be reckoned with in teamfights. Activating his passive makes him perfect for earlier teamfights.

Heimerdinger: His turrets and rockets provide extremely easy waveclear, making him a shoving machine. Keeping the enemy under tower makes it near impossible to gain any meaningful lead against him, and a support with quick CC can lead into an ultimate rocket barrage that can kill quickly.

Irelia: Her Q healing, W damage reduction, and E stun gives her very powerful early all in potential. This is increased at level 6, where a Sheen can allow you to win the fight straight out. Additionally, her Q minions bonus damage makes shoving her under tower irrelevant, since missing CS is nearly impossible.

Swain: His Q has good wave clear, his W and E, mixed with his passive, give him sustain, and his passive can be triggered by any hard CC. Level 6, its impossible to kill him since his ult gives him bonus health and healing. Most players take Perfect Timing, which makes him unkillable as he heals for free.

Vladimir: His Q is free sustain and poke, W allows him to dodge CC, and his E slow can keep people in range while his support crowd controls. His ultimate is also a guaranteed kill if they play the fight correctly.

Almost all of these champions also scale monstrously, making them terrors against ADCs who make it to late game. Each one of the factors I listed for each champion makes them overly oppressive against ADCs, and overly difficult to play around. Making it past the early-mid game as a mage vs an assassin brings the mage to full power, while the assassin falls off. However, if an ADC makes it to late game, a majority of their lane opponents will scale just as well against them.

My main issue with the changes isn't the diversity. It's that they gutted the main class in that role in order to bring other classes bot lane. Choosing an ADC is more often than not a detriment to the team. The proper solution would've been to introduce new champions who are designed to have weak early games and strong late games, or rework champions to fit that bill. As it stands, most picks bot lane can bully an ADC out of lane and still scale. They can have their cake and eat it too, and that's why ADCs are rightfully irritated with the changes.

And as a last note, no, most of those classes didn't "deal with it and adapt." To this very day, many mains of those classes are complaining about how unbalanced bruisers are against tanks, or assassins are against mages. Acting like ADCs mains are the only players who refuse to adapt to a changing meta is just objectively false.
