Why not get rid of placements?

If riot wants to reset MMR every season, that's fine but why put people through placements where a winning record can still get you dropped a bit? For us players this is a high risk no reward feature that just isn't fun. Can't you guys just axe the placements and integrate the MMR changes and auto-correct people's division to whatever their new MMR is after the soft reset?
